Grinder-Blaster-Polisher Combo
Description of Job:
This job is a combination of the previously existing classifications of Grinder/Blaster and Alloy-Finish Grinder. The total of the scope of the new job includes all the skills of these two classifications. The purpose of the combination is to create a flexible core of grinders, blasters and polishers capable of performing all of the related functions in their areas as the need arises. The duties of the new classification are described by the two existing job descriptions for Jobs 10 and 11 taken in total.
RC 5 Sandblasts and grinds surfaces of tanks and parts. May be required to work with glass, plastics, and composite materials.
Removes excess metal along welds, imperfections for weld repair and jagged edges.
Uses sandblast equipment to clean scale, rust, grease and other foreign material from surfaces. Removes enamel coating from objects to be repaired and re-coated. Works on inside and outside of tanks.
Grinds to blend radii and sharp corners, enlarges openings to specified size and removes or grinds fittings and other items to size. Operates portable electric grinders, electric belt sanders, plow for long seams and grinding machines.
Performs routine inspection such as leak detection and dye penetrant.
RC 7 will be paid to those who have mastered all aspects of the previous rate class.
Chips weld joints with pneumatic tool and remove burrs with hand file.
Dye checks seams and surface flaws. Must know proper use of grinding equipment including correct diameter of wheel for speed of machine used in order to avoid damage or accidents.
Brush naval jelly onto stainless, glasslined vessels. Let the wash sit for a specific amount of time, then wash off.
Load and unload trucks, boxes and skids or otherwise protect and prepare parts and units for shipment. Proficiency in the use of various material handling required to move material as needed. May operate basic machines such as shear, drill press, speed lathe, hydraulic press, etc., as required. Minor preventative maintenance duties may be required to repair equipment and hand tools. This position may work anywhere throughout the shop. May set up tanks for inspection and hydro test.
RC 9 will be paid to those who have mastered all aspects of the previous 2 rate classes.
Performs hydro tests, operates the Cayuga and Head Conditioner.
Will grind or gouge flaws for rewelding, balance agitators and bevel plates and heads with mechanical trimming machine and grinder.
Operates the cayuga and head conditioner machines.
May assist and /or perform assembly and testing the limited types of mechanical or fabricated parts to produce sub-assemblies or completed units. As needed, may paint parts and units.

In the event no candidates meet the minimum requirements for the job, the Company may elect to fill the opening by training under the provisions of Par. 13 of the Agreement.
