Job Description

GPI is seeking a Highway Engineer to join our growing Western NY operations in Rochester, NY. Responsibilities:

  • Work in a team environment to develop contract documents, including construction drawings and technical specifications
  • Apply engineering principles pertaining to and in support of the detailed plans and construction documents for roadways under the guidance of senior engineers
  • Actively mentor and provide guidance to less experienced staff
  • Progress and evaluate design details for roadway projects, including pavement condition and repair, sidewalk design, signing and pavement markings, complete street evaluations and minor drainage
  • Develop contract drawings using MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Review and provide Quality Control (QC) for project engineering deliverables
  • Interface with other technical disciplines
  • Develop cost estimates for construction documents
  • Attend project meetings and participate in project site visits when required
  • Assist with marketing proposal efforts for new roadway projects
  • Serve as Deputy Project Manager or Project Engineer on roadway projects within NYSDOT Regions 4 and 5
Qualifications:
  • BS Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • New York State Professional Engineer (PE) required or ability to obtain
  • 5 to 10 years of meaningful experience related to roadway engineering design
  • Shall be self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn and grow professionally
  • Prepare design criteria using relevant codes and standards
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office, MicroStation, and AutoCAD
  • Preliminary and final design plan production experience
  • Familiarity with MUTCD, AASHTO, and NYSDOT / County Standards
  • Good writing and communication skills a plus

Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration
  • Read, write, and understand plans and directions given in the English language
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to create and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents, create Outlook emails and utilize SharePoint and Microsoft Teams to communicate with other team members
  • Able to wear GPI required PPE, i.e., hard hats, safety vest, work boots, and/or safety glasses/goggles while working

Minimum Salary: 70000.000 Maximum Salary: 100000.00 Salary Unit: Yearly
