Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Transplant Technologists are responsible to rotate through an on-call program to provide all designated antibody and nucleic acid testing in support of Strong Memorial Hospital’s Transplant Program. The Transplant Technologists must also retain proficiency in the duties of a Medical technologist II in their originating department/section. The on-call schedule requires a dedicated individual who is striving for a more challenging work environment.

Supervision And Direction Received

Under direction of the Serology/Immunology Assistant Supervisor/Supervisor for Transplant testing responsibilities/section specific duties. No supervisory duties are exercised by the transplant technologist.

Section Specific Responsibilities and Duties

  • Working as part of a Transplant technologist group, assigned to on-call rotation. On call starts in morning at 08:00 A.M. and ends at 07:59 A.M the next morning.

  • Will be available for a 24-hour period, for the time that person is assigned to be on call

  • Scheduling changes must be coordinated among the Transplant technologist group and approved by the Serology/Immunology Supervisor or Assistant Supervisor for Donor Testing

  • Weekend and holiday assignments will be taken as part of the on-call Transplant program

  • Each individual on-call must carry a pager at all times, and respond to a page within 10 minutes

  • The person on-call must be available to be on-site within a reasonable time frame depending on conditions (30-60 minutes)

  • When not on call, will perform the daily section assignment within the Serology/Immunology Laboratory; working 8 am – 4:30 pm.

  • Will be trained to perform the following laboratory tests, and be capable of multi-tasking to accomplish this: HIV-1/2, HBsAg, HBcAb, HCV, Syphilis, CMV, and Nucleic Acid Testing.

  • Complete the assigned specific laboratory duties of a Medical technologist II within the Serology/Immunology laboratory

Additional requirements

  • Must be willing to take responsibility as a part of the transplant team

  • Must have a reliable means of transportation

  • Must be open to flexible work hours

  • Must be able to work independently while exercising good judgment, and be able to multi-task

  • Must adhere to all University, Division and Department policies, including I CARE.

  • Must adhere to all laboratory safety procedures

  • Must have effective interpersonal skills, and maintains a friendly and courteous professional manner at all times.

Section Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or applicable laboratory science and 2 years of relevant laboratory experience required

  • Master's degree in Medical Technology or applicable laboratory science and 3 years of relevant laboratory experience preferred

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Licensed Clinical Lab Technologist per New York State upon hire required.

  • Prefer previous Immunoassay experience

Pay Range

Pay Range: $36.50 - $47.45 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
