The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Responsibilities:
Performs complex technical assignments which are broadly outlined, require theoretical insight and interpretation, and allow latitude for planning and modifying methods and techniques. Exercises a high degree of skill and judgment, and an understanding of the principles and methodology of a technical field.Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: This Technologist is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of patient samples, using current, complex laboratory methods and/or instrumentation. Responsibilities include performing drug, vitamin and trace metal analysis from patient samples and entering results collected using the Laboratory Information system. Candidates must be detail oriented, able to work independently, and possess strong organizational skills. The Technologist is also responsible for routine maintenance of lab instruments and equipment, routine quality control and adherence to all lab practices and policies. TYPICAL DUTIES: Testing patient samples using tandem LCMS-MS, atomic absorption spectroscopy, and other complex technologies. Adherence to quality control and quality assurance protocols; maintaining professional discretion with confidential patient results; reporting results of patient sample analysis using computer/instrument interface options, as well as manual data entry; communicating effectively when answering telephone inquiries and other laboratory requests as needed; documenting and preparing reagents/QC/calibrators needed for analysis and maintaining correct protocols for their validation; performing daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment; performing method/instrument troubleshooting as needed; participating in continuing education, proficiency testing and training of other laboratory technologists. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: - Ability to exercise good judgment and attention to details with a minimum error rate. - Demonstrated effective communication skills (listening, speaking, and writing). - Ability to follow directions and adhere to all policies and procedures. - Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and multitasking. - Exhibits ICARE behaviors. - Ability to work independently and use good time management (punctual, manages down time). - Flexibility to changes in workflow. - Ability to learn and use complex analyzers and extraction methods. - Willingness to work with others as a team, strong teamwork spirit. - Considerate, helpful, has a positive attitude towards work and compassion towards other staff. - Ability to learn and improve from errors/mistakes. - Ability to retain information/knowledge to be used at a later time as necessary. - Willingness to perform 'extra' duties/studies/experiments. - Understanding of basic analytical principles. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree with Advanced Certificate in Medical Technology or baccalaureate or higher degree in the major of biology, chemistry, the physical sciences, or mathematics. Must be eligible for NYS licensure in Clinical Laboratory Technology or a NYS Restricted License in Toxicology.
