The referenced pay range represents the first and last step pay rates for this job, as set forth in the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Individual pay will be set in accordance with terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of a licensed nurse, provides patient care by performing basic procedures and selected specialized procedures that contribute to the well being, comfort and safety of patients.
SUPERVISION AND DIRECTION EXERCISED:
None.
MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT USED:
A variety of technical and mechanical apparatus, measuring devices, and analysis and office equipment.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Participates in the delivery of patient care by performing basic and specialized physical and psychosocial interventions as defined by the Patient Care Technician Skill Inventory. Tasks include collecting and recording of specimens and body fluids.
Under the direct supervision of a nurse, performs direct patient care affecting the well being, comfort and safety of patients.
Performs technical procedures and reports findings to the nursing staff. Tasks include: performing venipuncture for blood samples, performing EKG's, placing electrodes and obtaining telemetry readings.
Collects patient data as defined by the Skill Inventory List and documents these data on the appropriate flow sheets.
Collects specimens, performs basic tests or sends specimens to appropriate laboratory for analysis per Hospital policies.
Attends to patients' environmental needs by straightening belongings, offering comfort measures at the direction of the nurse.
Participates in Quality Assurance activities as directed by nurse.
Orients patient/family to unit and patient room, and provides copies of Patients' Bill of Rights, as directed by nurse.
Performs other duties as assigned by nurse to support unit functioning and patient care delivery.
REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma and two years of experience in health care delivery in positions such as: Nursing Assistant; Home Health Aide; EMT; Medic/Corps Person; or two clinical semesters completed as a Nursing Student; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
