University of Rochester Sexual Misconduct Prevention Education Specialist in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Senior Sexual Misconduct Prevention Education and Response Specialist, this position plays a critical role in the coordinated University and community effort to prevent sex and gender-based discrimination including sexual assault, violence, and harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking. Focusing on enhancing and expanding the Title IX Office's robust portfolio of educational initiatives for all students (graduate and undergraduate), this role works to further the development, implementation, and evaluation of current and new prevention programming at the University of Rochester.

This role helps build a community that aims to reduce sexual violence by engaging University members as partners to increase awareness, create consent culture, and foster healthy relationships.

This role may require some evenings and weekend hours. This role has the opportunity to work in a hybrid module.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programming and Training

  • Creates and delivers annual and pre-existing and on-going educational programming across the University student community to prevent and address sexual assault, sexual harassment, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking as well as encourage healthy relationships and boundaries.

  • Develops, implements, expands, and enhances programming and outreach initiatives on the topics of sexual misconduct in collaboration with university and community partners.

  • Spearheads efforts to plan and enhance current programming or events during special awareness months (ie: April – Sexual Assault Awareness Month; October – Domestic Violence Awareness Month) ensuring all University campuses are reflected.

  • Coordinates and continues to provide training from the office’s signature programming: BADASS Bystander, Unpacking Sexual Misconduct Medallion Program, and Don’t Cancel That Class!.

Program Efficacy Assessment and Evaluation

  • Conducts regular needs and outcome assessments for the planning and evaluation of prevention education programming.

  • Works directly with key stakeholders to provide and collaborate on new training opportunities for students based on assessment findings.

  • Leads an education prevention program including recruiting, training, and advising Student Prevention Trainers to facilitate approved educational content to peers.

  • Provides training for faculty and staff serving in roles on campus which place them in a position to be helpful to those reporting an instance of sexual misconduct.

  • Identifies training gaps and areas of opportunity.

Educational Outreach

  • Conducts outreach to student interest groups such as fraternities, sororities, athletes, student leaders, and student groups, to provide customized sexual misconduct prevention training on campus.

  • Works collaboratively with similar mission-focused student groups to deliver programming or provide support and guidance with their events when needed.

  • Provides monthly ‘Title IX Tuesdays’ tabling events at locations across the University to promote the office, available resources, and programming.

  • Maintains positive and collaborative relationships with related campus partners, community resources and services, and community leaders.

  • Acts as a Title IX liaison at tabling events per requests from other offices.

  • Serves on divisional and other University-wide committees, to include search committees, or others as assigned.

  • Assists with coordinating and creating digital media for the University of Rochester Title IX social media accounts.

Administrative

  • Ensures appropriate follow-up is completed to gather information, schedule and deliver requested training.

  • Provides students, faculty, and staff with information regarding the University grievance process, available resources, supportive measures, and reporting and resolution options when requested.

  • Maintains proficiency in sexual violence prevention initiatives and trends. Informs and adapts strategies, using knowledge around sexual violence, misconduct, and best practices, to reflect the best available evidence-based research practices and procedures.

  • Maintains, organizes, and restocks programming supplies and inventory.

  • In the absence of the Senior Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response Specialist, supervises student employees and coordinates peer educational training opportunities

Other Duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree required;

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • 3 years of personal, educational or professional experience studying or working with underrepresented and/or marginalized communities required;

  • Experience in event planning and program development required;

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Relevant experience working in a higher education environment such as Title IX, equity office, health promotion, or student affairs preferred.

  • Experience facilitating interactive training or public speaking preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and/or training in Title IX of the Educational Amendments Act of 1972 (Title IX), the Jeanne Clery Act of 1990 (Clery Act), the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 (VAWA), New York State Education Law Article 129-B (Enough is Enough), and legal obligations required.

  • Must be able to develop a knowledge base of current events, social justice issues, health equity, and trends related to sexual violence/dating violence prevention, and community-led mobilization as best practices as it relates to community engagement required.

  • Curriculum design and lesson planning experience preferred.

  • Ability towork independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced,team-oriented environment required.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and act withdiscretion,sensitivity, and neutrality. Ability to address issues in a prompt and professional manner required.

  • Strong commitment to student growth and development; related experience working with college students preferred.

  • Must display a high degree of professionalism with the ability to interface with students, faculty, and staff with diplomacy and tact required.

  • Ability to incorporate and utilize relevant technology (i.e. Zoom, Canva, Slack, Blackboard, Social Media applications) required.

  • A demonstrated understanding, ability to work with, and desire to serve underrepresented populations preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $59,197 - $82,888 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
