University of Rochester Sr IT Project Manager in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Sr. IT Project Manager is a member of a cross-functional team where teamwork, collaboration, balancing competing priorities and continuous learning are the norm. The candidate must possess a strong understanding of IT infrastructure components¿voice& data networks, communication equipment rooms (CERs), cabling (inside and outside plant), cellular, and paging. Have expertise in budgeting and financial management of infrastructure projects, encompassing cost forecasting and financial performance tracking. Have strategic planning skills with the ability to align IT infrastructure projects with broader business goals and strategies including vendor management to ensure effective coordination with value added resellers (VARs) and service providers. The candidate must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, which are essential for engaging with stakeholders, clients, and team members. The candidate must have a good problem-solving mindset to address and resolve project issues. Candidate must possess leadership abilities that enable motivation and guide cross-functional teams toward project objectives, supported by time management skills that help prioritize tasks to keep projects on track.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages medium to large assigned IT projects independently. Gathers input from team members on required tasks and translates into a project plan with tasks, activities, dependencies, timelines, milestones, resource requirements, and deliverables. Monitors and manages progress of project activities and ensures all critical implementation criteria are met.

  • Coordinates with Engineers, Architects, Team Leads, Resource Managers, and IT Leaders as needed to ensure the project follows department processes for quality assurance, migrations and promotions, end-user acceptance/validation, training, and support. Facilitates project meetings using effective meeting techniques for objectives, agendas, participants, and meeting minutes. Develops and maintains reporting dashboards suitable for Senior Leadership to communicate project status. Conducts post-project ¿lessons learned¿ sessions to identify successful project elements and areas for future improvement.

  • Identifies, tracks and manages risks and mitigation plans within assigned projects, escalating as appropriate. Identifies, tracks and manages issues to resolution within assigned projects, escalating as appropriate.

  • Provides status reports to manager, IT leaders and steering committees. Utilizes a variety of project management methodologies as appropriate to the project. Manages project scope and timeline, using appropriate governance bodies and leadership direction.

  • Keeps current with business and strategic goals. Understands other University service providers. Stays apprised of teams roles, processes, tools and architecture to better understand how the team works together to meet users' needs. Attends webinars, reads case studies and white papers and participates in other opportunities to further refine skills and stay apprised on project management topics.Builds and maintains internal departmental relationships.

  • Coaches and positively influences project team members to ensure accountability and action.

  • Determines scope of the problem/project through collaboration with the project sponsor, key users and system and application analysts.Collaborates with technical team leads and/or Managers to assign appropriate resources to the project. Obtains necessary approvals.

  • Makes presentations to staff on work-related issues. Serves on committees and attends meetings as requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline such as Project Management, Business Administration, Information Technology, or Engineering preferred.

  • 5 years of related experience required.

  • or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Experience in healthcare or higher education field preferred.

  • ServiceNow, JIRA, Smartsheet, Clarity PPM or Project Portfolio Management (PPM software experience preferred.

  • Detail-oriented with a proven ability to manage projects required.

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal), presentation, analytical and problem solving skills required.

  • Extensive computer literacy, including Microsoft Project, Teams and PowerPoint preferred.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred.

  • BICSI RCDD Certification preferred.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $86,482 - $129,723 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job¿s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
