General Description
Employees in this position are responsible for coordinating the use, application, and maintenance of various types of computer equipment, technology, and systems. These employees are assigned to a single department, bureau, or division. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level employee. Related work is performed as required.
This is a Competitive Class position. The individual selected to fill this vacancy will be given a provisional appointment and will be required to participate in the next Civil Service Examination for this title.
A qualified applicant may be provisionally appointed and serve in the position until a Civil Service Examination is administered and an appropriate eligible list can be established to make a permanent appointment in accordance with the Civil Service Rule of Three. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE.
Typical Work Activities
Develops applications and uses for available technology based on the specific needs and mission of the work unit;
Researches new products and system upgrades based on the needs of the work unit and recommends relevant software and equipment purchases;
Oversees the use, operation, application, and maintenance of the technology base for the work unit;
Develops methods, procedures, and approaches to maximize the utilization of technology and systems to improve workflow within the work unit;
Services as a liaison with the Information Technology Department to coordinate access, usage, and security for work unit;
Develops customized reports using software tools and demonstrates how to retrieve information from systems;
Trains staff in the proper operation and use of assigned technology;
Works with vendors on system repairs, upgrades, and integration with new systems;
Develops procedure manuals for the operation of software and systems;
Troubleshoots hardware, software, and equipment problems for assigned work unit, offering solutions, and making needed repairs;
Maintains appropriate systems documentation.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED AND
Bachelor’s degree in Applied Technology, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or closely related field.
