Continental Safety / DOT Compliance Supervisor in Rock Hill, South Carolina

The Safety / DOT Compliance Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing health and safety plans, enforcing policies, assessing risk, and ensuring compliance with legal guidelines. They conduct training, investigate incidents, and provide strategic recommendations for improvement, aiming to create a safe and compliant workplace environment in all BestDrive retail / plant locations. They will prepare and complete all regulatory and compliance documents. They will also maintain compliance with DOT and FMCSA regulations. The position will be responsible for maintaining compliant files and records and efficient use of Hours of Service. The Supervisor is responsible for setting goals and for developing strategy to continually improve safety for drivers. He or She will assign the appropriate training and works with leaders and team members to ensure that training is completed. This position functionally reports to the BestDrive Managing Director.

Champion Safety. :

  • Develop, implement, and promote organizational safety plans.

  • Develop and deliver safety training and awareness programs.

  • Lead safety investigations and root cause analysis

  • Monitor safety performance, analyze safety compliance systems, and identify potential risk.

  • Oversee the accident and injury prevention, recordkeeping, and reporting.

  • Develop inspection checklists, investigate accidents, identify hazardous conditions, and take necessary corrective action.

  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate and review safety procedures.

  • Prepare reports and present them to management.

  • Complete job hazard analysis and risk assessments

  • Research and develop health and safety initiatives and programs.

Conduct Inspections and Audits

  • Track monthly safety training topics and meetings for warehouse and driver employees.

  • Conduct MSHA and OSHA compliance inspections, audits, and accident/incident investigations

  • Develop inspection and audit checklists.

  • Assist the Regions in developing, implementing, and auditing management systems to prevent losses.

  • Track and follow-up audit findings.

DOT compliance:

  • Driver Qualifications – Medical Cards/Physicals, CDL, Annual Driving Records

  • Driver Training – DOT regulations, Hazmat training (all areas required for our industry)

  • Driver Records – Processing driver applications, DOT required documents, company policies, CSA, MVR, PEV

  • Monitor and assist in enforcement of DOT and FMCSA regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Conduct audits of drivers to ensure compliance and productivity through a fleet management and tracking software system. Use of TenStreet software for driver files.

  • Issue and maintain fleet records for company drivers and company owned power units.

  • Apply for permits and certifications (oversize, IFTA, Hazmat, NMFTA) for the company.

  • Register titles and tags for company owned and leased equipment (County Fleet and IRP).

  • Reviews reporting of all vehicles, passenger, and employee accidents/incidents for determination of cause and preventability and identifying potential trends.

  • Process and manage all driver accident claims with our insurance carrier and assigned adjusters.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in safety, science or a relevant field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience within Environmental, Health & Safety compliance

  • 2-5 years’ experience managing a team.

  • Must have a working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA general industry and DOT regulations.

  • Strong leadership, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with retail store/plant staff and corporate/global EHS team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2-5 Years experience in a manufacturing environment with multisite oversight.

  • OSHA certification

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work hours are generally 7-5 Monday – Friday. Saturday and evenings as needed; may have little to no advance notice.

  • This position operates in all types of indoor and outdoor work environments, therefore exposure to heat and cold is to be expected.

  • While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to stand, bend, climb, lift and walk.

  • Some sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Required to wear various forms of protective equipment (safety shoes, gloves, protective eyewear, etc.). Comply with OSHA regulations and safety requirements.

  • Up to 75% travel required.

  • Required to lift up to 25 lbs. routinely.
