X Energy LLC Manager, Systems Engineering in Rockville, Maryland

Position Description

X-energyis seeking professionals to join our Engineeringteam in the role of Manager, Systems Engineering.This role is primarily responsible for the technical development and implementation of a product while ensuring it conforms to all technical requirements.The Manager, Systems Engineering will implement rigorous, repeatable System Engineering processes; ensure technical integration; monitors and evaluates technical risks; and provides technical oversight and support to their team.

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for developing and managing the following elements of a nuclear project:

  • Technical Planning
  • Concept of Operations Development
  • Requirements Management, Flow-down, and Verification and Validation Planning
  • Configuration Management (hardware and software)
  • Technical Data Management
  • Interface Management
  • Cost model development
  • Risk management
  • Mentoring junior personnel
  • Overseeing direct reports

This role is responsible for meeting program technical objectives and technical requirements, including:

  • Performing functional analysis and documenting the functional allocation to systems and subsystems
  • Assessing and documenting design requirements, including the development of technical specifications. Entering and organizing requirements via requirements management tools/software
  • Overseeing and producing documentation to capture the flow-down of high-level requirements to lower levels of assembly
  • Defining the contents, format, and approach to develop System, Subsystem, and Component System Design Description documentation
  • Working with product development leads and subcontractors to define system and subsystem functional and physical architecture definitions
  • Ensuring that interfaces between Structures, Systems and Components (SSCs) and with the customer environment are understood, captured, and documented via Interface Control Drawings and Documents
  • Overseeing the requirements verification and validation process
  • Defining and ensuring the approach and content of contract end item verification documents

This role will also actively support the safety culture and ensure integration of quality in all processes by complying with the relevant requirements of the Quality Assurance Program as well as perform other duties as assigned by their manager.

Minimum Education/Qualifications

  • M.S. in Engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline, with a preferred Ph.D. in Systems Engineering or PE. Focused training courses in Systems Engineering, requirements management, and verification a strong plus
  • Twelve plus years of relevant industry experience
  • Demonstrated Systems Engineering experience in successful major nuclear system development projects
  • Strong familiarity with Systems Engineering requirements, tracking, and management tools (e.g., Genysis, CORE, DOORS)
  • Experience leading a team in system delivery and successful operation of nuclear SSC program
  • Experience and/or exposure to operational nuclear systems (commercial, National Laboratories, or Government)
  • Ability to effectively coordinate relevant interfaces between systems, projects, and departments
  • Basic understanding of Systems Engineering processes, as well as relevant aspects of nuclear licensing, regulatory, quality, and safety requirements
  • Professional presentation and strong communication skills
  • Good people skills
  • Good analytical and organizational problem-solving skills, lateral thinking skills
  • Ability to recognize risks/opportunities immediately, quantify impacts and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Able to be independent, objective, and impartial
  • Attention to detail and able to "think on their feet"
