Supporting the United States Geological Survey (USGS) will put you at the cornerstone of scientific exploration and understanding, not just for the nation, but the entire world.
The GIS Database Architect oversees 44 PostgreSQL clusters across on-prem and AWS, totaling 182 databases. This position makes sure everyone knows who owns what, who needs what, and who can access what while helping design elaborate database structures and maintaining security. The GIS Database Architect is largely responsible for monitoring databases to catch and fix issues early. Managing technical tasks and effectively communicating is incredibly important to this role. The individual who fills this role will do so with a wide-ranging skill set covering diverse aspects of database design, development, optimization, and management across various disciplines, particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field AND 4+ years’ experience OR 9+ years’ experience
Familiarity with AWS RDS Instances
Expertise with ESRI SDE
Proficiency with Linux
Demonstrated GIS experience
Expert proficiency in PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server database architecture
Coherence in database lifecycle management
