Vestis Services Principle Windows System Engineer in Roswell, Georgia

Description

Vestis is seeking an experienced Principal Windows Systems Engineer to join our IT infrastructure organization. The Principal Windows Systems Engineer will be a hands-on technical leader in the Windows systems team providing infrastructure, automation, virtualization, cloud, and directory services enterprise wide. This technical role will be responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of services to include Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, VMware virtualization, cloud technologies on Azure as well as providing architectural support for enterprise applications by collaborating directly with internal application. This role will have the responsibility of taking full ownership of these areas and driving innovative solutions and implementing infrastructure automation while taking into consideration system level operations to drive efficiency, high availability and performant architecture.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Experience designing and configuring Microsoft technologies including Windows Server 2016-2022, MECM/SCCM for patch management & software distribution, IIS web servers, and other system administration tools.

  • Experience with management of Active Directory including AD forest migration, Group Policy, remediation, and consolidation, as well as a strong foundation in other directory service technologies including GPO, DNS and DHCP

  • Strong understanding and background of working with a complex Active Directory, Azure AD, LDAP and the requirement of strictly following standards, procedures, and processes.

  • Experience in backup/restore and disaster recovery functions for windows & Azure environments.

  • Assist in maintaining application standards / server deployment / hardware / OS levels, etc.

  • Experience implementing/supporting Azure Cloud solutions including setup of tenant, migration and administration from on prem workloads.

  • Experience in architecting and deploying Azure IaaS, PaaS solutions including server workloads, logic apps, Bastian, Azure monitor, logging technologies and troubleshooting tools.

  • Experience in leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices and technologies including Azure ARM and Bicep templates or similarly Terraform along with git-based code management practices as it relates to IaC repository usage.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD technologies including Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions to facilitate infrastructure automation deployment.

  • Familiarity with Azure App Services and containerization technologies

  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot Azure server, PaaS and SQL database related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resources.

  • Design / Develop scripts for automation of operational processes where appropriate.

  • Experience with at least one scripting language (PowerShell / VBScript / Python, etc.)

  • Expertise in managing a large-scale VMware virtualization environment in multiple locations.

  • Experience in building and managing vCenter servers and ESXi hosts along with troubleshooting and maintenance for those environments.

  • Experience in SAN storage technologies and connectivity protocols for storage as it pertains to virtualized environments.

  • Experience in network connectivity including vSwitch, trunked ports and VLAN management as it pertains to virtualized environments.

  • Responsible for mentoring and guiding more junior engineers to help build the team skills over time.

  • Oversee outsourced services and vendor onshore and offshore.

  • Experience developing detailed architectural designs, administrative standards, and documentation.

  • Experience capacity planning, performance monitoring and maintenance planning to ensure high availability.

  • Coordinate with change control and environment management and network and security teams; upgrades and routine maintenance; troubleshooting support; performance monitoring; provides support and maintenance for networks at offices, data center, and DR sites.

  • Participate with implementation of solutions involving data encryption, data masking, secure file transfers, and data leakage prevention. Supports new initiatives related to regulatory mandates.

  • Implement / support security policies / audits - troubleshoot / resolve security permissions issues.

  • Supporting the goals of the company’s technological alignment efforts specifically to the spinoff and transition activities

  • Seeking out and implementing continuous process improvement opportunities

  • Supporting internal communications related to business improvements and processes, system upgrades, and enhancements.

  • Build and sustain working relationships with other Vestis functional areas.

  • Assist in Overseeing appropriate vendor relationships related to associated technologies, services, and solutions needed to operate enterprise functions.

  • Ensuring accurate and efficient governance policy development and adherence

  • Report on KPIs and status reports as requested by senior IT leadership.

  • Maintain good standing and completion on all compliance related matters (i.e., assigned mandatory trainings, actions required from audits, corporate policies, etc.)

  • Perform all additional duties and responsibilities based on the direction and guidance of supervisor.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Install new and rebuild existing Windows servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings.

  • Strong experience required with managing cloud technologies including Azure and/or OCI, AWS, GCP

  • Knowledge of protocols/technologies such as: DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SSH, SFTP

  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and maintain system standards.

  • Perform daily system and security monitoring, verify the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, review system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs.

  • Experience with backup operations, ensure all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media and integrity checked regularly.

  • Provide support to various end user and developer groups by request.

  • Ensure a secure environment by applying OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities.

  • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning.

  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.

  • Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required; maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment.

  • Participate in the design, implementation and management of workload automation initiatives.

  • Adhere to firm change management, problem management policies and familiarity with ITIL and/or Agile methodologies.

  • Skilled and proficient in MS Office O365 suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, communications tools, etc.)

  • Ability to operate with a customer-centric service approach.

  • Ability to establish performance-based relationships with 3 rd party vendors and technology providers and versed in setting standards and measurements for IT processes.

  • Ability to effectively define a business case, determine return on investment, and measure achievement of the implementation over time.

  • Ability to manage and work on multiple concurrent deliverables at various stages of development and completion.

  • Strong collaboration and team-building skills with the ability to create consensus around decisions and mitigate conflicts among teams.

Working Environment/Safety Requirements:

  • Ensure necessary working environment and capabilities to effectively carry out responsibilities if working from a non-Vestis location (remote work)

  • Ability and willingness to handle work related issues during all hours of the day, every day of the week, understanding the responsibility of our organization’s requirement for 24/7 production support.

  • Ability, willingness, and flexibility to travel as needed for approved work purposes in accordance with project and management schedules.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of demonstrated hands-on experience working in an enterprise Windows environments.

  • 3-5 years of demonstrated hands-on experience in cloud technologies and infrastructure automation.

  • Certifications related to the cloud environment preferred.

  • Bachelor and/or master’s degree preferred but not required.

  • Be legally able to work in the United States: U.S. Citizen or Legal Resident

License Requirements/Certifications:

  • Valid U.S. driver’s license (for rental cars when applicable)
