  • Master’s degree from an ALA -accredited library science or information science program.

  • Minimum five years of progressive supervisory and/or leadership experience, professional, relevant work experience in an academic library, with a particular expertise in the delivery of user-centered public services.

  • Experience leading, supervising, mentoring, and providing development opportunities for librarians and staff.

  • Ability to lead organizational change, engage in big picture thinking and build consensus around a strategic vision.

  • Knowledge of emerging trends in higher education and new developments in reference, instruction, access services, facilities operations, and the use of information technology in support of a library’s mission.

  • Experience in promoting library services and engaging faculty, students, and administrators.

  • Experience managing budgets.

  • Exceptional ability to foster relationships with faculty and students.

  • Supervisory experience and/or evidence of the ability to be an effective leader who fosters an effective, efficient, and collegial workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to coach and guide others in the development, framing, and communication of strategic initiatives.

  • Experience participating in a library fundraising and development program, engaging with new and ongoing donors and providing stewardship information to major donors.

  • Ability to build successful partnerships at the local, regional, and national level.

  • Experience in writing and managing successful grant proposals.

  • Skills in program management, development, marketing, and assessments.

  • Effective organization and time management strategies.

  • Flexible and creative in handling multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.

Job Description

Texas State University Libraries is seeking an Associate University Librarian for Library Services. This position provides strategic leadership and strives for organizational efficiency and effectiveness across Texas State University Libraries at the San Marcos and Round Rock Campus Library. The AUL for Library Services is a member of the University Libraries’ leadership team and provides oversight for public services, technology support, events & programs, and facilities. This position oversees the development and implementation of innovative services and resources that enhance the academic and research experience for the university community. The AUL for Library Services plays a pivotal role in transforming the library’s physical and digital landscapes to meet the evolving needs of a wide user base, promoting an encompassing environment that supports learning, teaching, and research. This position is responsible for locations including Alkek Library and Round Rock Library.

Job Duties

  • Formulate strategic plans in collaboration with library and university stakeholders.

  • Manage library facilities to ensure they are welcoming, safe, and conducive to learning and research.

  • Organize events and foster partnerships that engage the community and enhance the library’s profile.

  • Utilize assessment tools to evaluate and improve library services, operations, and user satisfaction.

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for library staff within designated units.

  • Oversee budget allocation, financial planning, and resource management for areas of responsibility.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
