Location 55104, MN Job Type Full Time Department Academic Advising Job Number 350105 Description The Academic Advisor will assist students with course selection, providing academic planning, monitoring student progress and assisting students with setting and maintaining personal and educational goals. The Academic Advisor approaches advising through a holistic model; focusing on the whole student which incorporates vocational, academic, financial and social goal-setting. The academic advisor provides academic assistance and individualized attention to promote each student's goal to graduate. The Academic Advisor is also responsible for teaching two credits of student success courses annually. Essential Duties Audits, monitors, and evaluates individual student academic progress and documents outreach and outcomes. Meets with students using holistic approach to provide feedback and guidance toward successful completion of degree program. Assists student in identifying appropriate institutional resources and facilitates relationships between the student and other individuals on campus who may provide assistance. Responds timely to student needs, provides accurate and consistent information and upholds the academic standards of the university. Proactively engages and manages advisees utilizing retention and communication tools. Interprets and explains college and university policies and procedures; participates in preparation of orientations and presents academic information to new students during orientation. Other duties as assigned. Competencies: Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to relate and communicate professionally and effectively.
