Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Welder Leader, WL-3703-10 position for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District and located in Sallisaw, OK. For more information on USACE Tulsa District please click HERE Responsibilities Build metal structures by cutting, bending, or assembling pieces. Perform maintenance such as industrial, hydraulic, mechanical, or electrical systems. Use shop mathematics for plans or layouts. Complete repairs using templates or jigs. Weld metals of various types (i.e., steel, bronze, brass, aluminum, cast iron, stainless steel, and special alloys. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) without more than normal supervision.. This will involve at least utilizing welding processes to fabricate, assemble, modify, or repair various metal or alloy parts; welding from flat, horizontal, overhead, or vertical positions on various types of metals; using blueprints, sketches, or shop drawings to ensure maintenance or repair of equipment is completed correctly. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Work tasks require that the incumbent be capable of rapid simultaneous mental and muscular coordination in conjunction with eye and hand coordination to operate switches and controls in accordance with meter indications. In order to perform the maintenance, inspection and operation of power station equipment the incumbent will lift and carry heavy objects 45 pounds and over, climb and reach above the shoulders, stand, sit, crawl and kneel for prolonged periods of time and performs repeated bending. The incumbent must be able to utilize the power plant communications system and to do so hearing and speech is necessary. In order that color codes be recognized the incumbent must have correctable vision and the ability to distinguish basic shades of colors. Operation of cranes, pickups and other motor vehicles is required. WORKING CONDITIONS The incumbent will work primarily inside around machinery in operation in close proximity to high and low voltage circuits and climb stairs frequently. Sometimes work will be performed outside in weather of varying degree of temperature and humidity, in tight or cramped work spaces, on ladders or scaffolds and on slippery or uneven walking surfaces. Occasionally the incumbent will use solvents or degreasing agents, be assigned to protracted or irregular hours of work, use both hands in water and be exposed to silica, asbestos, oil, grease, excessive noise, vibration, smoke and gas fumes. Personal protective safety devices will be supplied to the worker when in an area of hazardous exposure. Examples of devices are hard bats, safety shoes, safety goggles and glasses, fresh air breathing masks, gloves, dust and smoke respirators, ear muffs, insulated gloves and safety grounds. The incumbent, when in an area of hazardous exposure, will wear the appropriate personal safety device. Education Additional Information Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
