Job Summary

The Assistant Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid is responsible for overseeing the Admissions Process for the SJ Quinney College of Law, including JD, LLM , MLS , and potential undergraduate programs. Subject to the general direction of the Dean of The SJ Quinney College of Law, and in collaboration with the admissions staff, Marketing and Communications Director, Senior Development Director, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, and Director of Finance and Administration, the Assistant Dean develops comprehensive recruitment, admissions and yield strategies and leads execution of those strategies in support of the law school’s enrollment goals. They are responsible for recruitment and recruitment strategies, reviewing applications from potential students, creating new student criteria, overseeing the Admissions committee and the admissions team, and developing programs to help grow the number of prospective students.

Responsibilities

  1. In conjunction with the Dean, develop annual enrollment goals for the JD program, to include:
  • Headcount

  • Net revenue

  • Median LSAT and GPA

  • Class composition

  • Residency

  1. In conjunction with the Dean, develop annual enrollment goals for LL.M., Masters, and other related non-JD programs.

  2. In conjunction with admissions staff and other relevant parties, develop and implement recruiting and yield plans to achieve enrollment goals, including:

  • In-person, print, and digital marketing

  • On- and off-campus recruiting and yield events, including, eg, open houses, panel discussions, admitted students’ days, and alumni/student receptions

  • Student ambassador and faculty/alumni mentoring programs.

  • Print and digital communication and engagement strategies for each phase of the application process

  • Developing pipeline programs as appropriate

  1. Collaborate with the Dean and the Marketing and Communications Director on marketing related to admissions; make recommendations for improvement and consistency with messaging and strategy.

  2. In conjunction with the Dean and Director of Finance and Administration, develop, monitor, and revise scholarship/discounting strategy, based upon available funding, to achieve enrollment and net revenue goals.

  3. Develop statistical models to predict enrollment outcomes and manage resources.

  4. Develop and manage application review process to ensure timely file review and decision-making.

  5. Draft admissions correspondence to include marketing communications, applicant correspondence, and decision notifications.

  6. Review applications for admissions; render decisions and award scholarships; manage scholarship negotiation requests.

  7. Counsel prospective students on the admissions process and share benefits of a SJQ Law legal education.

  8. Proven ability to communicate with all constituencies to effectively convey the strengths and values of the SJ Quinney College of Law.

  9. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  10. Hire, train, motivate, and lead admissions staff.

  11. Oversee and manage daily operations of admissions team, including travel.

  12. Conduct department performance evaluations and establish a culture of coaching for performance.

  13. Develop and manage budget for the admissions office, including:

  • Scholarship

  • Payroll

  • Travel

  • Recruitment

  • Operations

  • Professional Development

  1. Develop and/or modify reports to monitor enrollment funnel.

  2. Serve on law school and university committees as needed.

  3. Participate in regional and national professional organizations such as LSAC , AALS , ABA , and prelaw organizations.

  4. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferences

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of progressively responsible admissions experience in a selective environment; OR Master’s degree/JD degree and at least three (3) years of progressively responsible admissions experience in a selective environment.

  • Experience working with stakeholders (e.g. intra-College partners and cross campus stakeholders) to accomplish goals:

  • Ability and willingness to travel on behalf of SJ Quinney College of Law (valid driver’s license)

  • Understanding of tuition and enrollment modeling

  • Understanding of multi-channel marketing and recruitment strategies

  • Understanding and experience in strategic planning
