Engineer- Mine Planning * Opportunity to work with a leading open cut mine with the Mine Planning team * Develop and communicate mine plans to key stakeholders for the Bingham Canyon's mineral deposit. * Excellent opportunity to develop your career and further develop your technical expertise- Salt Lake City, UT About the role We are looking for anEngineer- Mine Planningto join the Rio Tinto Kennecott team and support the business and operations through technical evaluation, mine planning and performing specific projects that can be system wide or focused on individual site.Also, ensure that mine plans between the major planning horizons are integrated to ensure no leak of value and that significant risks associated with achieving mine plans are communicated. This role will focus primarily in mine planning with a secondary focus on design work.You will be responsible for: * Utilize mine planning and scheduling tools to create optimal mine designs and schedules. * Develop underlying assumptions for incorporation into business plans and forecasting * Effectively communicate the mine plans to allow management to make the best possible decisions. * Work with Geotech and Geology personnel to assure safe and optimal mine designs. * Communicate with management on progress of planning and design as well as special projects. * Interact with Mine Operations to better consider their needs while communicating the requirements of the mine plans. * Work with representatives from the rest of the value chain to properly model production and to support projects outside of the mine that require inputs from the mine plan. * Support the mid range and strategic planning team in the development of life of mine plans and strategies to maximize value of the Bingham Canyon resource and mitigate business risk. * Develop material delivery sequences, mine fleet requirements and estimates for capital and operating cost suitable for inclusion into mining studies and life of mine plans. * Develop mine plans and waste dump plans at the appropriate level of detail to optimize both short- and long-term objectives What you'll bring To be successfully considered for this role, you will have: * S. Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent * 3+ years' experience working in a large open pit mine environment as a mine planner or similar role * Ability to understand and communicate technical problems. * Requires reasoning and critical thinking. * Ability to work in cross-functional and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure mine plans are integrated across ore body knowledge and the business * Experience working on technical mining projects * Requires a proven ability to operate independently and in small multi-discipline teams. * Excellent planning, time organization, and problem-solving skills a must. * Record of strong safety performance and familiarity with implementing established safety systems.
