SALT LAKE COMMUNITY COLLEGE Instructional Designer 2 in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Under the guidance of the Director of Technical Education & Workforce Training Outcomes, the Instructional Designer 2 role involves the comprehensive design, development, and implementation of curriculum for various workforce training programs. This position will focus on the creation and launch of new courses, programs and accompanying instructional materials with active participation in the curriculum development process. This position coordinates with the eLearning department at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) to ensure that instructional content adheres to college standards and effectively utilizes technology to enhance learning.

This position leads subject matter experts (SMEs), program managers, coordinators, and instructors in developing course descriptions and aligning content with specified learning outcomes. This position provides training for SMEs and instructors on effective use of Canvas and Zoom, focusing on best practices for lesson engagement, pacing, and assessment. This position designs new courses and updates existing ones to maintain high standards of interactive and effective instruction that align with course outcomes and industry standards.

Collaborates with the Assistant Vice President and Director to expand the educational capabilities of program managers, coordinators, and instructors in adopting and implementing educational best practices, including adult learning theory. This role demands a proactive approach to ensuring that all instructional materials and methods are of the highest quality and meet the evolving needs of technology-enabled learning environments.

 

- - Design effective, quality instruction for technology-enabled learning environments for delivery on the institution's platform(s). - Create appropriate assets and evaluation tools from content identified by subject matter experts. - Produce course design documents that are based on sound instructional design principles and communicate the vision of the course to stakeholders. - Work closely with faculty, staff, administrators, industry, and community members to design and develop offerings consistent with the division's goals and as assigned by the Director of Technical Education & Workforce Training Outcomes. - Ensure the instructional design quality of the courses developed. - Support creation of instructional materials for program offerings.

 

 

  • Provide leadership to the division, influencing the technology-enabled instruction towards best practices and positive student outcomes.
  • Lead division in coordination and standardization of online and blended instructional delivery.
  • Recommend innovative approaches and strategies to solve instructional problems as well as achieve course enhancements.
  • Conduct usability studies and needs assessments, as necessary.
  • Comply with institution's platform requirements.
