Job Summary

This position assists the healthcare provider in providing massage to patients and provides direct massage therapy services to staff, patients or visitors at their request, following the established protocol.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Administers massage therapy treatments within the scope of practice of massage therapy. Adjusts treatment given based on the patient’s condition and response to treatment.

  • Provides massage when requested and as outlined by a provider’s orders.

  • Educates the patient about the treatment provided.

  • Documents treatments, and summarizes financial and volume information. May implement research assessments for evidence-based outcomes. May deposit payments.

  • Carries out treatment within the plan developed by medical providers under general supervision.

  • May present information publicly on the benefits of massage and available services.

  • Problem Solving

Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.

Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills.

Ability to interact appropriately with customers in a complex, challenging environment and work with providers in job situations not previously defined. Promotes the value of massage therapy to a wide range of customers.

Demonstrated ability to recognize situations that can be handled independently verses those that need to be referred to other providers or the manager.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on assigned unit.

Demonstrated principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.

Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

  • Current licensure to practice as a Massage Therapist in the State of Utah.

Preferred

  • Experience working with multiple modalities including: Craniosacral therapy, energy work, Jin Shin Jyutsu, lymphatic drainage, and medical massage.

  • Five years of applicable experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience).

  • Multilingual capabilities.

  • This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
