Job Summary

This position provides supplementary funding for enrolled University of Utah undergraduate students who are completing unpaid internships either on-campus or with off-campus organizations within the state of Utah. In addition to satisfactorily completing the requirements of the internship, the student will create social media, video and or written descriptions of the career benefits of the internship to be shared with U of U students through social channels, websites, newsletters, and other media.

Students are responsible to locate and be selected for their internships prior to acceptance for Step Up. Internships must be within the state of Utah and work must be performed in person.

Preference given to students with internships in the non-profit and government sectors. In addition, selections based on alignment of internship with student future career plans. Limited funding available.

Responsibilities

General Responsibilities

  1. Apply and be accepted to an unpaid internship in the State of Utah.

  2. Satisfactorily complete the requirements of the internship.

  3. Meet with a U Career Success career coach to discuss internship and final project by September 27, 2024.

  4. Complete a final project for U Career Services:a. Selection of the project will occur by the time of the career coach meeting.b. Options include: A blog entry of 500+ words with accompanying photos describing the internship and the value it has contributed to your career exploration.c. U Career Success Instagram take over, Pinterest board, or other media to share a “day in the life” video describing your internship, or b-record a video describing the internship and how it furthered your career goals.d. Appear on a podcast panel: recording dates to be announced.

Responsibilities and process for final project

  1. Participate in the Canvas course.

  2. Sign a media release.

  3. Provide a brief bio and photo.

  4. Submit written proposal for the project to designated career U Coach by September 27, 2024.

  5. Meet with the designated U Career Success by September 27, 2024 to discuss internship progress and final projects.

  6. Final projects due November 15, 2024.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be current U of U undergraduate student (graduate students not considered).

  • Must not work outside of the State of Utah (including remotely).

  • This internship is work-study eligible. However, it is open to all students, regardless of work-study status.

  • Step-Up Internship funding is available to international students working in unpaid on-campus internships only.

  • Payment for internship hours completed between September 9, 2024 and November 22, 2024.

Preferences

  • Preference is given to students with internships in the non-profit and government sectors.
