Job Summary

“The Wilkes Center for Climate Science & Policy is seeking a talented web developer to design, develop and construct web tools and applications related to ongoing wildfire and climate research at the University of Utah. These tools will be designed to enable decision makers to access, analyze and interpret data to make decisions at regional and national scales. An ideal candidate would have front-end and back end experience with geospatial web apps and/or experience working with large geospatial datasets.

Further, successful applicants for this position will have experience building interactive mapping using tools such as Openlayers/Leaflet/MapBox/etc and maintaining large, complex datasets in cloud computing environments. This individual will be performing complex work designing, developing, configuring, testing, implementing and maintaining geospatial web applications using advanced programming tools and languages.

This is a 1-year full-time salaried position with annual/sick leave and health and retirement benefits at the University of Utah. Should funding allow, this position may be eligible for extension beyond the one-year timeline, contingent on successful execution of project deliverables and performance evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • This individual will be performing complex work designing, developing, configuring, testing, implementing and maintaining geospatial web applications and systems

  • Develop complex new applications using advanced programming tools and languages, based on project requirements.

  • Develop and implement high quality code, primarily that supports data processing and user interface visualization and web tools for research and contract projects.

  • Utilize a comprehensive knowledge of development languages and systems to work on complex projects involving software, database and system architecture design

  • Review, test and verify code to maintain quality assurance and control.

  • Create, integrate and deploy geospatial databases for project data.

  • Assist in maintenance of geospatial databases and their associated datasets

  • Analyze and improve the performance of web tools and applications ranging from server-output to browser-rendering.

  • Prepare technical documentation for both web tools and their back-end web services and support systems.

  • Collaborate with project team to integrate analysis tools into web applications.

  • Build accessible websites that meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines ( WCAG )

Minimum Qualifications
