JOB SUMMARY

The Day Care Coordinator oversees and coordinates the daycare program within the Career and Technical Education (CTE) department, focusing on providing support for daycare services and ensuring positive experiences for children, parents, and CTE students learning childcare skills.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

*All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. *Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Hold or obtain a Food Handlers permit, CPR certificate, and Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate within 30 days of hire
  3. Job-related experience
  4. Experience scheduling activities/meetings, gathering data, and using basic job-related office equipment such as phones, copy machines, and fax machines
  5. Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and experience in using data-based software
  6. Ability to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percentages, and ratios
  7. Must be able to speak, read, write, and present professionally in English; analyze and interpret written and verbal communications

     

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

These are examples of skills and experience that the best-qualified candidates may have.  Not having one or all of them does not disqualify any candidate from consideration.

  1. College-level coursework or degree in a related area
  2. Knowledge about age-appropriate activities, stages of child development, and childcare regulations
  3. Prior experience working with children under 6 years of age
  4. Previous experience within a daycare or childcare center
  5. Training or experience in behavior management techniques and positive discipline strategies
  6. Spanish or other language proficiency, including the ability to read, write, speak, and understand

     

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Ensure the safety, happiness, development, and well-being of the children under their care
  2. Utilize strong knowledge and keen attention to detail in order to coordinate daily childcare program operations (e.g., lesson plans, registration, etc.)
  3. Maintain confidential program management records, including record keeping and administrative tasks such as managing attendance, food service records, accident reports, manage document processing, etc. Must report any observations or incidents to the relevant administrative personnel
  4. Identify issues, create action plans, and solve problems to improve services, including managing student conflicts
  5. Inform parents of daycare children and CTE students about the operations of the daycare program, including promptly responding to inquiries from both parents and employees
  6. Follow standardized practices and methods under limited supervision while utilizing time-management str ategies to meet deadlines effectively
  7. Manage inventory to ensure smooth daycare operations
  8. Oversee Daycare Assistants to enhance program effectiveness and adherence to program standards
  9. Assist with food and snack preparation to meet the needs of the children
  10. Promote good habits and mentor social skills to improve the quality of children's outcomes and encourage children's development (e.g. demonstrating good hygiene techniques, communication, etc.)
  11. Provide basic care needs (e.g. toileting, diapering, changing clothes, bottle feeding, etc.).
  12. Assist in administering first aid as assigned (e.g. scrapes, bruises, etc.) to meeting their immediate health care needs
  13. Work collaboratively as part of a team to foster positive working relationships and create a safe, positive learning environment. This includes supporting personnel in effectively performing their duties, such as assisting in developing and implementing daily activities that meet the needs of children and maintaining an efficient work environment
  14. Lead staff meetings to provide critical information and conduct training sessions, and share essential updates. Additionally, participate in assigned meetings, workshops, and seminars to exchange and gather necessary information vital for fulfilling job functions and responsibilities
  15. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively
  16. As needed, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 50 pounds
  17. Communicate with diverse individuals and groups while maintaining confidentiality and building positive relationships with employees and stakeholders
  18. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required
  19. Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective function of the work unit

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 30% sitting, 30% walking, and 40% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
