JOB SUMMARY

*The Sweeper II maintains an attractive, sanitary, and safe facility for students, staff and public; providing equipment and furniture arrangements for meetings, classroom activities and events; and minimizing property damage, loss and liability exposure. *

Sweepers may be required to transfer between locations to fulfill department staffing needs.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

*All positions require selected candidates to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a criminal background check. *

Additional minimum required qualifications for this position are:

  1. Familiarity with methods of industrial cleaning; and safety practices and procedures.
  2. Speak, read, write, and present professionally, analyze, and interpret English written and verbal communications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school diploma or equivalent
  2. Previous custodial experience
  3. Experience in a K-12 education or public employment environment
  4. Spanish or other language proficiency, including ability to read, write, speak, and understand

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Arrange furnishings and equipment to provide adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and events.
  2. Assist in securing facilities and grounds to minimize property damage, equipment loss and potential liability to organization.
  3. Clean assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
  4. Attend in service training (e.g. blood borne pathogens, cleaning solvents, floor care, first aid, etc.) to receive information on new and/or improved procedures.
  5. Sanitize restrooms according to departmental guidelines.
  6. Participate in meetings, workshops, seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or or gathering information required to perform functions.
  7. Work under limited supervision, utilizing time-management and prioritization strategies, accurately processing detailed information and meeting deadlines. 
  8. Support a team environment by collaborating with own and other work units to effectively perform the duties of the position.
  9. Adapt to changing work priorities and work with frequent interruptions, as required.
  10. Speak, read, write, analyze, understand, and follow written and verbal communication in English including grammar and punctuation; listen to, and understand information and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
  11. Maintain regular and predictable attendance to fulfill job requirements efficiently and effectively.
  12. As ne eded, stand for extended periods of time, roll, push, pull, bend, reach, stoop, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 0% sitting, 50% walking, and 50% standing.  The job is performed under some tempe ature extremes and in a generally hazard free environment.
