Navistar, Inc. Mechanical Product Development Engineer in San Antonio, Texas

Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Product Development Engineer to join our R&D team at our Assembly Facility in San Antonio, TX. This person will work in the Product Development group at the manufacturing facility and will provide direct line production support for the vehicle’s chassis and/or body systems including EV chassis. Troubleshoot issues on the assembly line, document noted issues and develop containment recommendations. The schedule for this role is, Monday – Thursday 5:30AM – 4:00PM. San Antonio Manufacturing runs a 4x10 production schedule (Mon-Thurs, 5:30AM - 4:00PM). This role will support production and may need to cover production recovery times including Fridays and weekends as needed.

This facility has the flexibility to build Class 6-8 trucks along with Electric Vehicles that allow Navistar to add capacity to support anticipated industry growth. Using the Internet of Things (IoT) and connected manufacturing principles, Navistar's newest manufacturing facility will continue growing our market share gains, optimizing our supplier network and improving quality.

Responsibilities

  • Developing solutions to complex problems while maintaining the integrity of the product

  • Identify, troubleshoot, contain, and permanently correct engineering issues in the assembly plant

  • Develops mechanical and electromechanical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; soliciting observations from operators

  • Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests

  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed

  • Coordinates testing of design for durability and compliance to Federal, State and local requirements

  • Works directly with Manufacturing, Materials, Quality, Purchasing and other Product Development Engineering groups

  • Supports Manufacturing and plant goals of safety, quality and cost

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science

OR

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and will obtain degree prior to first day of employment

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.   • Unigraphics (preferred) or other solid modeling cad software

  • CAD experience and familiar with CAD concepts
