JOB SUMMARY
To provide safe, reliable, cost-efficient vehicles, by performing quality preventative maintenance inspections and repairs, as well as performing expert diagnosis and repair as required, to prevent breakdowns, reduce vehicle down time, and improve total fleet reliability.
2nd Shift Hours- 12PM to 9PM
3rd Shift Hours - 9PM to 6AM
Responsibilities
Perform required inspections and preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment, in accordance to First Article Inspection (FAI) / Commercial Vehicle Inspection (CVI) annual inspection requirements
Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on tractors, trailers, dollies, lift gates, light duty vehicles, and shop equipment.
Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs due to: malfunctions, road-call repairs, and driver vehicle inspection report write-ups, in a safe, efficient, professional, and timely manner.
Diagnose cause of malfunctions to vehicle engine, cooling, transmission, cutch, drive-line, and differential, fuel, ignition, exhaust (including regen), emissions, intake, brake, suspension, steering, HVAC, hydraulic, mechanical, refrigeration, and electrical – including computer controlled, and on-board interior / exterior systems; as well as, perform repairs to those systems.
Perform inspection and safe replacement of tires / wheel assemblies
Document all time, materials, and repairs (using complaint, cause, correction format) on computerized equipment (tablets, etc).
Share knowledge with other techs, to aid in their own development
Assist with washing and re-fueling of equipment when needed
Assist with shop clean-up duties, and any others, as asked
Adhere to all safety requirements and wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the job
Champion overall safety in the department
Comply with OSHA, and other local, state, and federal regulations
Adhere to organization and department policies and procedures, including grooming, appropriate attire and attendance
Maintain tools and equipment in safe, clean, usable manner
Provide own tools and appropriate storage for the job (some specialty tools are provided)
Participate in company or departmental meetings and/or training
Continue education through on/off site training, mentorship, and OEM sponsored schooling
Qualifications
Education
High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Medium/Heavy Duty truck technical training
Experience
2 years school and 1 year of work, or
3 years of experience in fleet maintenance and repair
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Current and valid state driver’s license, CDL-A preferred
Annual Inspector Certification (and demonstration of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that apply)
Brake Inspection / Repair Certification (and demonstration of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that apply)
ASE Certification -Automotive or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck (preferred but not required, and demonstration of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that apply)
EPA Section 609 Certification (and demonstration of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that apply)
Professional Skills
Working knowledge of all vehicle system components and operation
Knowledge and skill in diagnosing and repair of vehicle electrical systems
Use of electrical meter and computer-based diagnostic equipment
Fabrication design and construction
Knowledge and skill in welding and cutting (gas, arc, and MIG or TIG)
Moderate knowledge of all DOT (FMCSA) regulations
Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
Knowledge of environmental regulations
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, regulations, and work orders
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Familiarity with, and safe, proper use of common hand and power tools, as related to the job
Interact professionally, appropriately, and at a high level of cooperation with others
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear
The associate is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
The associate will use hands to feel, finger, handle, grab; and arms to reach, climb, support and balance
The associate must have the ability to push, pull, grasp, lift, and carry
The associate must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, in varied light
Working Conditions
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet, hot, extreme cold and/or humid conditions, moving parts; and may be required to work in confined spaces
The associate may work non-traditional business hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
The associate may be required to travel to other operating companies, or the corporate office, as business needs dictate (training, business continuation, etc)
The associate is occasionally exposed to high, precarious, and confined spaces
The associate is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
