PeopleReady Automotive Mechanic in San Bernardino, California

PeopleReady Skilled Trades is looking for experienced AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS to lend their highly sought-after skills for a permanent job opportunity in Colton, CA. This is a TEMP TO HIRE position that starts as soon as possible. The schedule is Monday-Friday (and every other Saturday) from 7AM to 5PM with many opportunities for overtime. All candidates must pass: - Panel interview - Drug screen - Background check The Automotive Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection service, and maintenance our range of company vehicles. The ideal candidate will be driving to various jobsites in a company vehicle and will be primarily inspecting engines and equipment, carrying out services, conducting repairs, and providing routine maintenance to the construction fleet. In this role, you will communicate daily with the Shop Manager. Your goal while repairing equipment is to complete all repairs quickly and efficiently, all while staying safe. Responsibilities:

  • Plans and coordinates tasks and activities of company's fleet auto repair shop, working on CNG gas- and diesel-powered vehicles, including Peterbilt and Kenworth trucks in addition to PACCAR MX 11's and MX 13's, Allison, Eaton, Cummings engines.

  • Operates diagnostic equipment to determine repairs that need to be made.

  • Prepares preventative maintenance schedules for motor vehicles and notifies drivers and operators when maintenance is to be performed.

  • Performs repairs and maintenance for company vehicles and equipment.

  • Maintains database of maintenance and repair records for company vehicles and equipment.

  • Oversees shop inventory, orders parts, shop supplies, and equipment.

  • Ensures all applicable safety standards and regulations are followed in facility.

  • Ensures all DOT vehicle inspections are in compliance per maintenance schedule.

  • Cleaning, lubricating, and conducting routine services on heavy-duty vehicles.

  • Cleaning and servicing of machine attachments like winches, and tarping systems.

  • Reporting damaged or faulty equipment to management in a timely manner.

  • Assemble mechanical components according to specifications identifying warranty items.

  • Design an SOP plan of action for all maintenance tasks and upgrades.

  • Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures to machine and vehicle users.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of gasoline, CNG, and diesel engine repair.

  • Ability to diagnosed fault codes and computerized equipment.

  • Extensive knowledge of vehicle, truck, and heavy equipment repair.

  • Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Must be able to successfully complete assignments or tasks with little supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a team environment and collaborate with coworkers to accomplish all work goals and assigned tasks.

  • Aware of the alarm sound and signals for starting the equipment or systems.

  • Must be able to work safely in a fast-paced environment.

  • Candidates must have valid ca driver license, reliable transportation, and own tools.

  • 5-10 years of experience preferred.

  • Must have electrical, hydraulic, AC certified experience, recycling, and metal industry preferred.

  • High School degree or equivalent.

  • Language Skills: Will be required to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos, to write correspondence, memos, and schedule; to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to guests, clients, and fellow staff.

  • Basic math skills required.

  • Problem solving, reasoning, and thinking out of the box will be a constant requirement; in addition, applying common sense understanding to better serve our team's needs.  Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.

  • Prolonged periods of walking and standing.

  • Must be able to lift up, push and pull to 40 pounds at a time.

  • Consistently climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crawls or crouches.

  • Consistently turning and moving of hands, arms, feet, and legs.

  • Regularly uses close, distance, color, and peripheral vision as well as depth perception.

  • Ability to adjust focus.

  • Often works outdoors in both hot and cold temperatures.

  • Occasionally works in wet and windy areas.
