Burns & McDonnell Business Development Manager - Municipal Water | Wastewater (California Region) in San Diego, California
Description
The Business Development Manager is responsible for the overall managing of the business development and sales efforts where engineering or professional consulting services are required and informing the direction and development of emerging business opportunities within the water industry in California. These emerging business opportunities should strengthen the business lines and Practice’s overall market position while promoting our position as thought leaders to our clients and within the water industry across California. Potential to execute design only, design/build, and EPC projects! Work location can be anywhere in California. Presence in southern California is preferred.
Identify projects where engineering and professional consulting are required for drinking water facilities, wastewater facilities, storm water projects, collection & distribution pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, and storage reservoirs.
Support business strategy for developing new business opportunities in water.
Provide business strategy and leadership for developing and marketing new business line product offerings.
Provide guidance and industry feedback or trends to the water leadership team.
Provide direction as part of the sales team for furthering Burns & McDonnell’s position in the industry through industry events, conferences, and contacts.
Work to proactively identify and position Burns & McDonnell for upcoming projects and opportunities.
Determine business objectives and requirements, organize projects and develop standards and guidelines.
Recommend necessary structure and organization to ensure the effective fulfillment of goals and objectives.
Support, mentor, and help build talented teams across California (Orange County, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Walnut Creek) to execute water, wastewater, stormwater and/or distribution/collection (linear) projects.
Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
Review budgets and schedules for proposals efforts.
Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners as part of the team including project managers, engineers, and designers.
Comply with the Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.
Ensure that client diversity goals and initiatives are met.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, environmental science or related degree from accredited program.
Licensed Professional Engineer a plus.
Seven years (ten years preferred) of experience in business development, consulting or design execution of water projects.
Three years in developing strategies to respond to client proposals or needs in a business and consulting role.
Existing relationships with local and statewide municipal and private clients.
Capable of devising new approaches to solve complex problems.
Capable of effectively marketing these services to potential clients.
Excellent facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated financial success on completed projects.
Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.
Excellent planning and analytical skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, and able to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Previous project management experience on water project is a plus.
Compensation
$150,000.00-215,000.00 Annually
The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
