Nexstar Media Group Editor, Assignments in San Diego, California
ROLE: Individual will coordinate daily news coverage on broadcast and digital platforms, maintain assignment desk functions, organize field assignments and plan coverage to support FOX 5/KUSI’s news brand.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for listening to scanners
Dispatches photographers, reporters and other personnel to cover stories
Tracks stories from all sources including government agencies, wire services and community groups
Assists in development, planning and follow-up of all news stories
Keeps newsroom informed of story developments throughout day
Answers phones and email to determine what makes a great story
Edits video clips as assigned
Coordinates live shots and content sharing with Nexstar affiliates, FOX, and other partners
Posts stories to station website and social media sites
Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism or communications background preferred
2-year’s experience in a top 50 market newsroom
Knowledge of the San Diego area a plus
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have superior organizational skills
Must be able to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks
Must be able to make decisions and take a leadership role
Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written
Must be able to direct the efforts of reporters, photographers
Must be able to operate as a team member as well as a team leader
Must be able to take suggestions, participate in decision-making, and be flexible in recognizing various points of view
Must be capable of interacting productively with other employees of the station
Must be willing to work on weekends, holidays and overnight hours as needed
Starting $24.52/hr commensurate with skill level and experience
