Per diem position. Variable 4-, 5- and 6-hour shifts between 10:00 am – 4:00 pm (weekdays) and 10:00 am – 3:00 pm (weekends).

Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$32.343 - $40.429 - $48.515

The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position.  The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.

What You Will Do

Support breastfeeding women and their families by offering lactation education, empathy and resource referral per Sharp HealthCare's standardized guidelines for breastfeeding. Promotes good health and increase awareness of available support services and products that can assist with breastfeeding.

Required Qualifications

  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association

  • Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) - Various-Employee provides certificate

Preferred Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent

  • 1 year experience as an active certified lactation educator

  • Retail, office, and basic computer experience

Essential Functions

  • Department efficiency and effectivenessSupports effective and efficient daily operation of the boutique or shop. Performs “opening and closing” procedures accurately per department guidelines.Receives and displays new merchandise.Ensures knowledge of current features of all new products.Utilizes cash register and or point of sale payment methods.

  • Department supportSchedules and maintains the outpatient lactation appointments following lactation department guidelines.Triage calls from customers requesting outpatient lactation appointments and direct to appropriate resources to include breastfeeding support group, help with the boutique or shop, or an outpatient lactation appointment.Accurately schedules, changes, or cancels outpatient lactation appointments in Sharp Outlook calendar.

  • Equipment maintenancePer infection control practices, properly handles, cleans, and disburses the hospital grade breast pumps and baby scales.Accurately rents, records, renews, and facilitates collections of breast pumps and baby scales.Manages the grant breast pump fleet and coordinates with the lactation department to ensure availability for patients in need.Facilitates collection of renewal fees.Follows proper procedures for lost pumps.Properly completes pump rental forms and communicates issues to the rental company.

  • Receiving AccuracyHandles donor breast milk shipments.Properly accepts and ships donor breast milk in coordination with the San Jose Milk Depot.Accurately records and stores donor breast milk in the donor milk freezer.

  • Training and educationSeeks resources when uncertain, in new situations.Appropriately refers customers for service as required for needs outside the scope of practice for a Lactation Educator.May conducts breastfeeding support group per department guidelines.Assists customer locate appropriate resources from Consumer Library.Assesses the breastfeeding needs of patients, families and consumers and develops a plan of action, including age/culturally specific considerations. Teaches in accordance with Sharp HealthCare's standardized guidelines for breastfeeding instruction.Identifies and prioritizes overt patient and family needs.Develops plan of care including goals.Documents assessment data and care plan per department guidelines.Suggests various breastfeeding accessories and fit bras to maximize breastfeeding success. Suggests other products to consumers that may be of interest to them.

  • Manages inventory suppliesIdentifies inventory needs and re-stocks available products.Assists with ordering of merchandise per department guidelines.Offers input regarding deletion and addition of inventory stock.Receives new merchandise, tracks via electronic database, merchandises creatively.
