Job Description
Repair, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on boilers, pumps, and valves.
Work onboard ships on auxiliary equipment, pumps, valves, and boiler systems.
Perform major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine engines, outboard motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals.
Establish and maintain a preventive maintenance program for marine engines and related marine research equipment.
Test marine engines and equipment to determine the need for repairs or adjustments.
Repair and maintain hydraulic equipment and valves.
Operate hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair.
Assist in the fabrication of equipment.
Accomplish the installation, maintenance, and repair of ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems including, but not limited to, steam, gas turbine, and diesel propulsion systems, rudders and steering gear, elevators, and deck equipment without supervision.
Accomplish the installation repair, and maintenance of ship's fluid systems which include pumps, compressors, purifiers, heat exchangers, actuators, and valves without supervision.
Responsibilities
Analyze defects and adjust or repair electrical mechanical systems of outboard motors.
Disassemble and inspect motors for defective parts using mechanical hand tools.
Replace parts like gears, magneto points, piston rings, and spark plugs, and reassemble engines.
Test equipment to ensure systems meet specifications, references, and drawings without supervision.
Install and test various shop equipment.
Follow repair references and drawings and be proficient in the use of precision measuring equipment.
Perform other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
Essential Skills
Experience with blueprint reading, machining, shipyard operations, boilers, pumps, shafts, valves, hydraulics, ship repair, and shaft repair.
Previous shipyard or Navy experience working as an Outside Machinist or Machinist Mate.
Over 5 years of experience as an Outside Machinist (Journeyman Level).
DBIDS eligibility and the ability to access BAE and CMSD yard.
Work Environment
- Work will be performed at BAE Systems aboard the USS Halsey, USS Mobile, and USS Green Bay. Work will also be performed at NBSD aboard the USS Russell.

- This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $32.00
