About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Legal Operations candidate that is energetic, business-minded, and self-motivated to oversee the Legal Government Affairs Operations function. The candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an innovative mindset. The Director of Legal Government Affairs Operations will report to the Sr. Director of Protection Operations and will collaborate with other Operations Directors and Legal Government Affairs Department leaders to maximize effectiveness in a centralized organization. The Director will lead and develop best practices that are critical to the Legal/GA Departments including: strategic and financial planning, law firm vendor management, expense management, communications, resource optimization, and Legal Department and industry measurement, benchmarking, and analysis. This position will collaborate across practice areas within the Legal/GA Departments and other support functions to enable the efficient and effective delivery of legal services to our business and functional partners. The successful candidate will develop strong relationships with internal constituents, including Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, Corporate Communications, and Procurement.

What You'll Do

  • Support long-term strategic and financial planning for the Legal Government Affairs Departments, including resource needs and allocation.

  • Oversee financial planning processes in partnership with Operations, Legal, and Finance Department colleagues and law firm partners.

  • Oversee law firm spend and law firm billing procedures and practices, including the Company’s Outside Counsel Policies and Procedures.

  • Oversee law firm rate approvals, including the annual timekeeper rate review process and new timekeeper rate benchmarking.

  • Lead negotiations on law firm rates and fee arrangements and manage requests for proposals.

  • Negotiate engagement letters and maintain the Department’s engagement letter template.

  • Lead Legal Department communications and programs and develop and deliver internal training on tools and resources.

  • Lead projects to drive efficiency and effectiveness across the Department, including building out automated process workflows.

  • Manage tools and technology resources across the Department.

  • In partnership with Legal Department leaders, assist in preparing, monitoring, and tracking Legal Department objectives and monitoring trends on key data points.

  • Respond to industry benchmarking surveys and participate in Legal Operations roundtables and events.

  • Support Inclusion and Belonging efforts for the Department, including tracking key internal metrics and responding to surveys.

  • Support Pro Bono efforts for the Department and coordinate CLE opportunities.

Who You Are

  • Extensive experience as a Legal Operations leader in a corporate legal department. In-house legal experience strongly preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced Management degree preferred.

  • Prior experience managing work related to financial planning and strategic initiatives.

  • Prior experience managing law firm engagement and retention.

  • Prior experience developing and implementing work systems and processes related to Legal Operations. Strong system administration management background and skills.

  • Candidates must be able to operate autonomously while being a team player who brings a “can do” attitude to the workplace and works collaboratively with internal and external constituents.

  • Experience in managing, directing, and collaborating with a Legal Operations team.

  • High degree of professional and personal integrity. Handles confidential and sensitive information with due care.

Salary Range: $144,800 - $191,900 USD

Employee pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies and work location. We will meet minimum wage or minimum of the pay range (whichever is higher) based on city, county and state requirements.
