Our 4,100- acre system includes 25 recreation centers, 9 swimming pools, 5 golf courses and numerous athletic facilities, including sports courts, ball diamonds, soccer fields and gymnasiums. Included in the department’s responsibilities are Golden Gate Park, Coit Tower, the Marina Yacht Harbor, the Palace of Fine Arts, and TPC Harding Park golf course.

About Camp Mather 

Each summer, RPD operates Camp Mather, a rustic family campground located near Yosemite National Park, approximately 3 hours east of San Francisco. Each week, about 500 campers enjoy a week-long stay at Camp Mather; enjoying a full range of recreation activities such as a supervised swimming pool and a lake for water activities, supervised recreation programs, hiking, and evening campfire entertainment. Guests stay in cabins, and enjoy 3 delicious meals each day, served cafeteria style with a full salad bar and excellent service.

The 2706 Housekeeper/Food Service Cleaner performs a variety of cleaning and housekeeping duties in connection with the maintenance of quarters for camp visitors and staff as well as performs a variety of cleaning duties in connection with the Camp Mather Kitchen and Dinning Hall.

Examples of  Essential Duties:

  • Sweeps and mops floors.

  • Replenishes supplies, as needed.

  • Assists in stripping and waxing floors.

  • Cleans, dusts, and polishes furniture and empties trash receptacles.

  • Moves and cleans tables and chairs as needed; removes used trays, dishes and food from table; keeps trays in order for distribution.

  • Operates commercial dishwashers and trash compactors.

  • Uses and reads Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and chemical solutions.

  • Provides information and assistance to the general public.

  • Ensures waste is disposed of according to recycling procedures.

  • Changes bed linens, makes beds, and launders soiled linens.

  • Washes toilets, bathtubs and shower stalls daily; washes, stoves, refrigerators and sinks in kitchens; washes shelves, cleans cupboards, dishes, pots and pans; cleans inside windows and blinds.

  • Assists in the preparation and serving of meals.

  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Working Conditions at Camp Mather 

Housing and Meals: during employment, FREE meals and housing is provided to camp employees. Camp staff live in shared housing with other camp staff. 

Nature of work: Includes working both indoors and outdoors, exposure to sun, snow, rain, high/low temperatures, potential wildfire smoke and will regularly encounter bugs and insects. 

Work Schedule: The work week is typically six (6) days, comprise of small shifts throughout the day. However, staff may be required to work an alternate work schedule consisting of 10 – 12 hour shifts with appropriate breaks (limited to 40 hours in a work week), during the high season to accommodate the needs of the department. Shifts may also include weekends and evenings. 

Work Location: Camp Mather is located in the High Sierra near Yosemite National Park about 3 hours east of San Francisco.

Transportation: Camp Mather employees are responsible for securing their own transportation to and from Camp Mather. Parking is available for personal vehicles.

Cell Phone & Internet: Camp Mather has VERY limited cellular and Internet/Wi-Fi services available on its grounds.

Housekeeping/ Food Cleaner staff will be working with various cleaning chemicals as part of the position requirements. 

Available Work Assignments: Camp Mather operates in three phases. Applicants are available to apply for any or all camp phases, however, hiring priority for this position is given to those who can work the Early Crew, High Season AND Wrap-up Crew, in part or in full. 

  • April 13 to May 17 (Early Crew)

  • May 18 to August 16 (High Season)

  • August 17 to September 22 (Wrap-up Crew)

Appointment Type: This position is a temporary exempt, as-needed appointment. This position is seasonal and will not result in an eligible list for a permanent civil service position. Employees serve at the will of the Appointing Officer.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One (1) year of verifiable experience in cleaning at a food court or restaurant; OR

  • One (1) year of verifiable experience in general cleaning and housekeeping at a government or private institutional facility (such as schools, libraries, hospitals, airports, etc.) or a large commercial facility (such as stadiums, auditoriums, arenas, hotels, etc.).

Supplemental Information: The nature of the work requires sustained physical effort involving continuous light work and occasional heavy work in moving or lifting furniture and equipment, with some exposure to accident and injury hazard and disagreeable elements; ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be willing to work day, swing or graveyard shifts which may include weekends and holidays.

NOTE: Selected candidates will be required to obtain a ServSafe certificate or California Food Handler Card prior to appointment.
