Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will serve as a Litigation Support Specialist responsible for providing a variety of technical, analytical, and legal support services to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation, and presentation. Typical work assignments will include: Evaluating electronic files and developing a plan for their handling and management, organizing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing, and controlling of documents into a database for review. Performs quality control on processed files and addresses any identified issues. Generating electronic discovery productions that comply with production specifications and deadlines. Preparing computerized trial presentation programs. Maintains accurate and current records regarding incoming electronic case materials, adhering to office tracking protocols, such as by completing standardized inventory or tracking forms and index of processed materials. Uses document review database functions such as coding, tagging, advanced searching, sorting, filtering, and analytics (e.g., threading, stemming) for the case team and advises litigation teams on these functions' use. - Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Each grade has 10 step rates and applicants are usually hired at step one of the applicable GS grade level at which the applicant qualified. The salary range for a GS-9 in San Francisco, California is $74,642 - $97,034 (step 1 through step 10). The salary range for a GS-11 in San Francisco, California is $90,310 - $117,400 (step 1 through step 10). Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as assisting in the preparation of case materials, such as exhibits, trial notebooks, and witness or exhibit lists; preparing trial exhibits for presentation in court; managing electronically stored information relevant to investigations and casework; maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of incoming electronic case materials; using software tools to extract case materials from storage devices or secure file transfer sites; copying electronic discovery productions to external media or file transfer systems; performing case organization tasks such as scanning documents and creating digital storage solutions (e.g., CDs or external drives). Education: Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree such as LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR 2 full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to such a degree. This education must have been in one of the following fields or must have provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the following fields (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Law). Combining Education and Experience: I have a combination of experience and graduate level education that when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the required qualifications. Only graduate level education in excess of the first full year can be used in this calculation. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate level hours that exceed 18 semester hours (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study). To calculate your percentage of specialized experience, divide the total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is defined as participating directly in trial preparation and presentations, including working with attorneys to configure and use automated tools for courtroom presentations; managing and deploying computer hardware for trial use, including troubleshooting and ensuring functionality during proceedings; organizing and managing case-specific discovery materials using electronic tools, including processing and indexing digital evidence; developing and delivering trial presentations that integrate the use of databases, spreadsheets, trial presentation software, and audio and video editing applications; applying technical expertise to integrate electronic evidence into case presentations and managing litigation technology systems. Education: Possess one of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Information Technology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Law): Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a related field; OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related. Combining Education and Experience: I have a combination of experience and graduate level education that when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the required qualifications. Only graduate level education in excess of the first two years can be used in this calculation. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate level hours that exceed 36 semester hours (or your school's definition of two years of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of graduate study). To calculate your percentage of specialized experience, divide the total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Now, add the two percentages together. The sum of the percentages must equal at least 100%. Note: In order to be considered "qualified" for this position, your specialized experience must be described in your resume.
