By working closely with the US government and coordinating grassroots advocacy efforts, our Corporate and Government Affairs team represents United on public policy and legislative issues. Key Responsibilities:

Implement corporate environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance at company’s higher risk facilities. Assist in following company environmental management system as well as environmental compliance tracking. Act as the environmental steward and champion sustainability efforts at your facility. Serve as primary contact on facility environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives and as the primary contact for airports and regulators for environmentally related items. Provide station specific compliance and sustainability data and maintain appropriate records. Support other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for environmental compliance and monitoring of the day-to-day compliance obligations at company’s facility

  • Act as liaison between all operating groups at facility and other Environmental Affairs' staff to maintain environmental compliance, facilitate sustainability initiatives and monitor projects or events that have potential environmental impacts at the facility, such as construction, remediation, etc.

  • Coordinate with your manager or subject matter expert(s) with facility regulatory reports and permits

  • Represent Environmental Affairs at routine operational meetings as required to discuss compliance and sustainability

  • Facilitate and maintain any required environmental inspections, including weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual written inspections as required by company’s or airport authority’s environmental procedures/policies, and ensure all identified deficiencies are corrected

  • Act as Point of Contact/First Responder for any spills or emergency situations that may arise at the facility

  • Assist with the performance of audits, station visits, and timely implementation of audit finding corrective actions (including actions of other responsible parties at facility). Assist with implementation of environmental training at facilities

  • Assist operations personnel with the implementation of environmental permit conditions, such as stormwater, wastewater, waste and air permits

  • Maintain facility environmental files, permits and other facility related environmental data

  • Prepare certain regulatory reports and provide support on special facility projects as advised by your manager or other Environmental Affairs staff

  • Serve as point of contact for regulatory agency inspections and assist agency inspectors and outside environmental consultants with facility tours, file inspections, etc

  • Manage and track waste disposal from waste collection areas; supervise and report site data that support United's global environmental strategy

  • Provide guidance to the different work groups to ensure compliance and facilitate sustainability initiatives

  • Manage compliance with DOT and RCRA requirements for recordkeeping, labeling and tracking of regulated waste generated by all company operations at facility

  • Assist with preparation of paperwork and sampling required to remove regulated waste from the facility, including waste profiles and manifests

  • Act as company’s designee in preparing and signing regulated/hazardous waste manifests, land disposal notification forms, and any other waste related paperwork for facility

  • Ensure that all hazardous waste storage areas are clean, organized, properly identified, and accessible for inspection Ensure all company emergency response spill kits and waste management supplies at facility are inspected, maintained, inventoried and stocked

  • Establish individual goals that align with departmental goals

  • Responsible in developing individual career development and training plans with leader

  • Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United’s approved projects

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • College degree or comparable environmental work experience with general understanding of environmental regulations

  • 2-4 years environmental experience covering environmental field compliance

  • Knowledge of environmental regulations in the aviation industry.

  • Must be an organized self-starter

  • Proficient computer skills including WORD, EXCEL, OUTLOOK, and PowerPoint

  • Comfortable working with DOT/RCRA hazardous materials and chemicals

  • Able to move heavy equipment

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degrees in environmental sciences/policy or related area

  • Airline, aerospace, or airport experience

  • Knowledge of airline practices and operational procedures

  • Ability to build trust and communicate across departments

The salary for this position is $73,425 to $107,690, dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education and skills. This range is based on a full-time schedule.
