Position Summary

The Finished Goods Generalist works in partnership with the Tile Kiln Lead and Tile Production Supervisor to determine the daily workload for kiln offloading, quality control, tile logistics, and tile mounting. This position requires flexibility to help in different disciplines within tile production. The Finished Goods Generalist is the primary backup for absences and time off coverage.

Responsibilities

Generalist Responsibilities

  • Unloading, cleaning, and loading the tile kilns, rotating kiln cars in the morning for each new firing

  • Changing and starting computerized firing programs

  • Organize fired tiles on carts for the quality control team to process

Mounting Responsibilities

  • Calculate the number of mounted sheets required for the order

  • Set up mount jig and pattern per order

  • Boxing and labeling mounted sheets for small pallets and freight shipments

Quality Control (QC) Responsibilities

  • Learn all 100+ glazes and 30+ shapes and sizes and maintain knowledge of QC standards 

  • Recording sorted totals on production orders and sales orders

  • Boxing and labeling tile with appropriate information; first quality, second quality 

  • Track daily QC totals

Logistics Responsibilities

  • Check Production Orders, Sales Orders, Labels, and Order Location Log for accuracy

  • Create bills of lading

  • Manage will-calls and customer pick-ups

  • Prepare pallets for shipment to Heath’s standards (wrap, stack, confirm bill of lading)

  • Cut shipping materials on band saw

  • Operate a forklift 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Desire to work in a plant environment and to be “hands on”

  • Excellent people skills: must be patient and flexible

  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral

  • Proficiency with basic Mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division

  • Demonstrated ability to be reliable and punctual

Physical Requirements (Medium to Heavy)

  • The ability to transport clay, finished goods, and other production materials (up to 35 lbs. at a time). The total weight lifted per day can be 3500 to 5000 lbs.

  • Other activities, including climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling.

Work Environment/ Hours / Compensation

This position is a full-time, non-exempt role that is on-site at our San Francisco Factory & Showroom. The hours for this position are 5:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a Union position and begins at $25.00 hourly.
