Oriental Bank Analyst, Regulatory Compliance (Audit) in San Juan, Puerto Rico

The Analyst, Regulatory Compliance (Audit) is primarily responsible for reviewing the organization's internal controls, processes, and policies to validate compliance with regulatory consumer protection laws and regulations. Participate in monitoring and testing engagements, including defining the scope of the review, selecting the testing approach and sampling methodology, designing, and documenting the working papers, completing fieldwork and discussing findings with Management. This position will be working hybrid based in San Juan, PR.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Achieve the overall compliance annual plan objectives.

  • Evaluate the business unit’s compliance with the applicable laws and regulations through the execution of the review program. Identify populations, select samples, and complete the fieldwork within the established timeframe.

  • Support the Monitoring & Testing Advisor in the draft of compliance reports and reporting such findings to Management.

  • Identify actionable issues, their associated risk and root cause. Present the preliminary findings to Management and evaluate the effectiveness of their proposed corrective action plan (CAP).

  • Assist in the validation of CAPs, including evaluation of implementation documents, requests of extensions, changes in status, etc.

  • Support Management in the implementation and/or revision of the compliance policies and procedures.

  • Collaborate with the assigned tasks related to the complaints management function as required, including the review of cases, preparation of reports, discussing observations with the business units, etc.

  • Collaborate with the Manager or Advisor in carrying out special projects as required.

  • Other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or related field required.

  • One (1) year of experience in Accounting, External or Internal Audit, compliance or related experience required . Banking experience preferred.

  • Minimum education and/or experience required can be substituted with the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.

  • Knowledge in federal and local consumer protection laws and regulations preferred.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret laws, regulations, trade journals and legal documents. Must be able to respond to common inquiries from regulatory agencies, courts and external consultants required. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish with a demonstrated ability to write communications clearly, concisely and effectively required.

  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point) required.

  • Analytical, problem solving, organized, detail oriented and able to multitask.

  • Maintains and promotes a high standard of confidentiality and strong ethical values.
