Fabrication Shop Supervisor

SUMMARY: Manages Fabrication Shop and Fabrication field work and its employees on a day-to-day basis. Performs in-house engineering, design and prepares shop drawings to be used for fabrication, prepares as-built drawings and provides engineering support to Heavy Marine Construction, Dredging and Mining companies with duties both in the field and in Fabrication Shop personally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and Supervise Fab Shop employees and projects safely, efficiently and cost effectively both in shop and field.
  • Provide engineering support to Equipment Manager, Port Engineer and Fabrication Shop Foreman on capital repair projects, modifications, manufacturing, repair and new construction both in the shop and in the field.
  • Perform Shop Drawings to support fabrication crew manufacturing.
  • Perform 'as built'' drawings of fabricated and manufactured items.
  • Perform owner's drawing modifications to reflect changes to structural items.
  • Provide drawings and designs as directed by Equipment Manager in support of equipment retrofits, modifications, repair and new construction in AutoCAD.
  • Provide engineering support and administrative duties at dry-dock facilities in support of vessel dry dockings as directed by Equipment Manager and Port Engineer to include inspecting, measuring, documenting, reporting, designing, drawing, and maintaining files.
  • Interact with manufacturers and technical advisors on capital repairs, routine repairs, modifications, additions, retrofits and new construction as directed by Equipment Manager and Port Engineer.
  • Assist with performing material and labor take-offs in support of fabrication projects to include assisting in estimating, quality control and cost tracking.
  • Assist Port Engineer with maintenance and setup of equipment files, drawings and maintain electronic equipment file database, Preventative maintenance programs (Mobileops).
  • Assist Equipment Analyst with cost reports, budget vs actual studies and trend reviews, assist with SOQ and Egnyte database maintenance as directed by Equipment Analyst.
  • Provide buildability input and drawings and QC for all projects performed by Fab Shop

QUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university in Mechanical or Structural Engineering or Naval Architecture and at least three years' experience with fabrication, welding, mechanical design, shipyard, marine repair and estimating.
  • Language Ability: strong written and verbal communication skills in order to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients and customers.
  • Reasoning Ability: ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions given in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills: to perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient knowledge of and experience with Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Physical Presence: Regular and predictable physical presence in the Fabrication Shop is an essential qualification for this position due to the importance of the team-related aspects of the essential duties, the aggressive timeframes under which the employee will operate, and the need for face-to-face interaction with employees in the Equipment Department in order to properly perform job-related functions.
  • Current valid Driver's License required.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

PAY RANGE (DOE):$90,000 - $120,000 per year
