About Astellas Gene Therapies

Astellas Gene Therapies is an Astellas Center of Excellence developing genetic medicines for patients with rare, life-threatening diseases. Based on our innovative approach to developing genetic medicines, as well as our industry-leading internal manufacturing capability and expertise, we have become the Astellas Center of Excellence for their newly created Genetic Regulation Focus Area. We are currently exploring three gene therapy modalities: gene replacement, exon skipping gene therapy, and vectorized RNA knockdown, with plans to expand our focus and geographic reach under Astellas. The Role:

The Senior Buyer/Planner will manage the procurement of supplies, services, equipment, and/or raw materials needed for manufacturing operations and facilities. The role will work with managers to support the department’s needs and maintain various reports to monitor the supply chain needs within Astellas Gene Therapies. The position will take initiative and use resources needed to ensure the supply chain is properly aligned with the expectations set forth by the Senior Manager or Manager, Supply Chain and Materials. This person will manage vendor relationships and work between vendors and the Supply Chain team to best position Astellas Gene Therapies with fair and reasonable pricing as well as effective timing on delivery of products. This role is expected to interact with other departments such as Finance, Manufacturing and Process Sciences and others as necessary. This role is based at the Sanford Site.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates and processes purchase requisitions and purchase orders, direct and indirect, in Oracle Fusion in accordance with the documented procurement process; communicates the purchase order status with Management and Stakeholders; manages orders throughout completion.

  • Facilitates cost savings and quality improvement projects through purchasing, reviewing proposals, and negotiating pricing with suppliers; responsible for setting up, reviewing, executing, and maintaining vendor contracts.

  • Interacts with suppliers and responsible for maintaining and enhancing good business relations between Astellas Gene Therapies and suppliers; holds regular supplier meetings; reviews the open orders, updates Oracle, and informs management about any at-risk items.

  • Develops a strong understanding of key vendors and suppliers who support the GMP biologics industry and the specific needs of Astellas Gene Therapies.

  • Works with Accounts Payable and others as necessary to mitigate and clear pending invoicing issues in a timely manner.

  • Participates in cross-functional projects for NPI, second sourcing, and process improvements; builds relationships within the department and with surrounding departments; maintains a high level of quality and compliance with regards to all aspects of purchasing.

  • Contributes to the revision/creation of MTL specs process of materials under the Supply Chain responsibility; will use the ERP system (Oracle) to analyze the current inventory supply/demand situation and execute materials purchases to maintain proper inventory levels based on analysis.

  • Initiates quality events or change request in the quality system as needed or assigned.

Quantitative Dimensions:

The Senior Buyer/Planner will manage the procurement of supplies, services, equipment, and/or raw materials needed for manufacturing operations and facilities. The role will monitor supply chain needs and take initiative to ensure the supply chain is properly aligned with expectations.

Organizational Context:

The Senior Buyer/Planner will typically report to the Senior Manager or Manager, Supply Chain and Materials. Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 4 plus years of work experience or 3 plus years direct working experience in bio/pharma industry as a buyer or purchaser, or Associate degree with 6 plus years work experience or 5 plus years direct working experience in bio/pharma industry as a buyer or purchaser.

  • Prior success working both independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel).

  • Will support and demonstrate quality standards to ensure data of highest quality.

  • Works closely with team and other functional key stakeholders on the Astellas AGT Technical Operations team to execute work and will be expected to perform other duties and/or special projects, as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a GMP environment.

  • Experience in a startup environment.

  • Analytical with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong knowledge of ERP systems, Oracle preferred.

  • APICS certification desired.

Working Conditions:

  • This role frequently requires long periods of sitting, standing and use of regular motion to include bending, stooping, overhead reaching actions, and lifting up to 20lbs.

  • This is an on-site role working in a cGMP regulated manufacturing facility.

  • On occasion, this role may travel to other Astellas Gene Therapies Manufacturing facilities (0-5%).
