As Corporate Counsel, you will be an integral member of the legal team and company as a whole, and will report directly to Umbra’s VP, Head of Legal. We are a small team with all hands on deck, and you will be making a meaningful impact on the day-to-day operations of a fast-paced technology company. Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Transactions: Provide legal counsel for commercial and government transactions; draft, review, and negotiate various contracts with customers, strategic partners, vendors, and subcontractors, as needed.

  • Compliance: Collaborate on development and implementation of the companywide compliance program to ensure the company meets and exceeds its legal and ethical obligations.

  • Legislative Advocacy: Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments impacting the company; prepare position papers and other advocacy materials.

  • Product Counsel: Support the readiness and release of products and features by identifying and driving resolution of issues related to export compliance, intellectual property, privacy, data security, and other legal and regulatory areas.

  • Trade Compliance: Oversee the international trade and anti-bribery compliance programs, and serve as an Empowered Official.

  • Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Manage litigation matters and disputes, working with outside counsel as necessary.

  • Training: Develop and deliver training on relevant legal issues to internal stakeholders.

  • Additional Projects: Participate in other projectsas needed and contribute to the areas where you have skills.

  • Other professional duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Attorney in good standing in at least one state in the United States.

  • 5+ years of relevant legal experience.

  • Deep knowledge of US export controls, especially International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

  • Experience counseling business teams through the product development lifecycle and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment under minimum supervision.

  • Resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to make decisions with imperfect facts.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Eagerness to wear many hats and desire to expand beyond your core function.

  • Enjoy utilizing technology to increase efficiency.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in a fast-growing startup developing critical technology or in the Earth observation industry.

  • Combination of law firm and in-house/government experience.

  • Experience with trade compliance, spectrum management, and/or government data security.

  • Intellectual curiosity and desire for continuous growth and improvement.

  • Engineering or other technology experience.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance may be required.

  • Have grit and a can-do attitude.

  • Strategic thinker with a passion for national security.

  • Knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies.

We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function and level benchmarked against similar stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by skills, responsibilities and relevant work experience.
