Nvidia Senior Director, Mixed Signal Design in Santa Clara, California

NVIDIA has continuously reinvented itself over two decades. Our invention of the GPU in 1999 sparked the growth of the PC gaming market, redefined modern computer graphics, and revolutionized parallel computing. More recently, GPU deep learning ignited modern AI — the next era of computing. NVIDIA is a “learning machine” that constantly evolves by adapting to new opportunities that are hard to solve, that only we can tackle, and that matter to the world. This is our life’s work, to amplify human creativity and intelligence. Make the choice and join us today!

We are part of the global engineering team at NVIDIA that crafts groundbreaking GPUs for all applications, such as supercomputers, gaming consoles, and self-driving cars. Come join our mission to engineer the next generation of innovative products. Our team's focus is on the architecture and design of CMOS and Silicon-Photonics high-speed chip interfaces (NVLink, IEEE, PCIE, USB, OIF) and other sophisticated photonic functions. Are you a leader? We are looking for a leader with a proven track record in carrying designs from initial concept to customer. You will have the opportunity to define product architectures, work on developing high-speed active, passive photonics components, and contribute to the development of the next-generation photonics program. As the key collaborator, you will work with team members and leadership internally and externally. In addition, this role will be the lead technical engineer assessing risks and identifying swift solutions to achieving program goals.

What you will be doing:

  • Work with foundries to define and optimize device structures and processes.

  • Partner with test engineering and design validation teams to perform full test and device characterization of silicon photonic devices.

  • Work with module developers to craft optical sub-assemblies.

  • Develop methodologies for high-quality components suitable for volume production.

  • Interface closely with laser and package designers to optimize performance for various form factors and operating conditions.

  • Actively collaborate across disciplines—with digital, photonics, analog, and physical design teams—to design devices that meet performance and power requirements.

  • Work with external vendors to ensure timely development and delivery of key photonics related processes and components.

  • Engage in problem-solving and contributing with novel architectural ideas.

  • Work closely with hardware and software teams on functionality, interfaces, and documentation.

What we need to see:

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar subject area or equivalent experience

  • 12+ overall years of proven experience in a related field and demonstrated ability in designing silicon photonics ICs from concept to high-volume manufacturing; 5+ years of leadership experience

  • In-depth knowledge of photonic device physics, semiconductor laser, and device physics

  • Extensive experience in crafting, simulating, and testing high-speed optical modulators for 50+Gbaud in Si, IIIV, and other material systems including micro-ring, Mach-Zehnder, and electro-absorption modulators.

  • Experience in architecting, designing, and taping out PICs; PIC test data analysis and design optimization.

  • Proven track record of ownership of coordinated silicon photonics components.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate in cross-disciplinary teams.

The base salary range is 340,000 USD - 517,500 USD. Your base salary will be determined based on your location, experience, and the pay of employees in similar positions.

You will also be eligible for equity and benefits (https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/benefits/) . NVIDIA accepts applications on an ongoing basis.
