CommonSpirit Health Manager Philanthropy Grants in SANTA MARIA, California


Marian Regional Medical Center, located in Santa Maria, California, is rated among the top 10% in the nation for cardiac care, and is a designated STEMI Receiving Center (ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction) in Santa Barbara County. Santa Barbara County STEMI receiving programs earned the Silver Award from the American Heart Association for excellence in patient care. Marian has achieved prestigious designation as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. In addition, Marian has received the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Clinical Excellence Award. The medical center’s cancer program is distinguished as the only comprehensive Community Cancer Center on the Central Coast. The need to meet the demand for quality, technologically-advanced care for a growing community led Marian to open its doors to a new state-of-the-art, 191-bed facility in the spring of 2012. The new facility houses the largest and most comprehensive perinatology/neonatology program on the Central Coast providing the most compassionate, quality care to the littlest of patients. This position manages the grant programs for Marian Regional Medical Center Foundation, French Hospital Medical Center Foundation, and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation.

Positiion Summary:

Responsible for managing a grant fundraising program to support the fundraising goals set forth by the Foundation leadership. Grant fundraising program includes: conducting prospect research; writing and preparing grant proposals to private foundations, corporations, and government agencies; and coordinating the submission of grant reports to funders.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Manages a grants fundraising plan for private, corporate, and government grants, in accordance with Foundation's annual fundraising objectives.

  • Conducts grant-seeking prospect research on private foundations, corporations, and government agengies for possible grant opportunities, in accordance with the hospital's strategic plan or fundraising initiatives.

  • Prepares proposals for solication, includes heavy grant writing, light budget development, good knowledge of SMART objectives and evaluation methodologies. As needed, works with Program Managers to develop grant-ready programs for solicitation.

  • Monitors progress on grant-funded programs, in close collaboration with assigned program manager. Responsible for obtaining reporting information from program managers in order to submit interim and final grant reports to funders. Ensures program managers submit data reports, where required.




Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of education and/or additional job-related experience may be substituted in lieu of the degree.

  • Minimum of (2) two years experience as a grant writer in a complex organization with multiple grant-funded programs, preferably a hospital or adademic organization. Experience as a researcher or manager of a grant-funded program in community health or healthcare systems delivery can be substituted in lieu of exclusive grant writing experience.
