Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The Oncology/Hematology Nurse Practitioner provides patient assessments in the outpatient setting to patients with hematology/oncology diseases. The NP uses clinical expertise and advanced knowledge to support coordinate and provide care for patients and their families in the outpatient setting in collaboration with the cancer care interdisciplinary team and the physicians to make sure that the patients are assessed timely. The major job responsibilities are listed below and the nurse practitioner is expected to be able to bill Medicare for the visits made. In addition the nurse practitioner will be expected to order appropriate labs diagnostics and medications as needed by the patient.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Progressive clinical nursing experience

  • Three to five years of progressive clinical nursing experience with primary care management of an oncology patient population.

  • Focus on hospice and palliative care is desired/necessary

  • Oncology/Hematology Nursing Hospice and Palliative Care Graduation from accredited schools of nursing;

  • Masters Degree Licensed / Certification as a Nurse Practitioner

  • Current Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse (AOCN) by ONS Certification of Advance Practice in Hospice and Palliative Care

  • Verbal and communication skills presentation skills computer skills computer skills

  • Special Competencies required: Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skill in the management of patients in need of palliative care.

  • Must additionally complete initial clinical training and preceptorship with supervising physician. (California requires the NP is supervised by the MD)

  • The role of the nurse practitioner is to work collaboratively with a physician in providing health care maintenance disease prevention physical diagnosis and treatment in the general and specific specialized settings.

  • The Nurse Practitioner working in a specialized setting at the Clinic will adhere to Standardized Procedures in accordance with the Nurse Practitioner Act in California Business and Professional Code.

  • Certification by the State of California Board of Registered Nursing as A Family Nurse Practitioner

  • Current National Certification (ANCC) as a Nurse Practitioner

  • DEA Controlled Substance Registration National Provider Identifier Number (NPI)

Pay Range

$59.53 - $86.32 /hour
