Sarasota County Government Chief Treatment Plant Operator in Sarasota, Florida

Are you a licensed Class "A" Water Treatment Plant Operator with supervisory experience? We’re looking for someone to oversee the technical operations, maintenance, and staffing of our water treatment plant facilities. If you’re ready to lead and make an impact, apply today!

  • Assign coordinate and perform tasks as required for the proper operation and maintenance of water treatment facilities and distribution system water quality daily.

  • Schedule and perform necessary planned maintenance and emergency maintenance, and respond to emergency operational requirements as needed, while coordinating with the facilities maintenance staff, skilled trade workers, and other support staff.

  • Coordinate, assign, and perform tasks for customer complaints.

  • Schedule work orders for preventative maintenance in accordance with the County's CMMS program (Maximo).

  • Prepare weekly operational and maintenance summaries.

  • Evaluate and interpret the results of any analysis and determine necessary operational adjustments.

  • Coordinate assignments of operational tasks to ensure continuous efficiency of the treatment process safely and appropriately.

  • Supervise daily duties of plant operators and trainees assigned to the treatment facilities.

  • Schedule work hours in accordance with operating permits.

  • Serves as coach and evaluator for treatment plant operator merit reviews.

  • Prepare and manage facility budget.

  • Prepare and submit purchase requisition information in accordance with county policy relating to equipment and services pertaining to the assigned facilities.

  • May be required to fulfill Technical Director Duties for the NELAC Certified Lab.

Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. *On-Call Required.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Building, Construction, or related field .

    • OR - two (2) year associate's degree AND two (2) years of experience in the operation of water treatment facilities.
    • OR - a High School diploma AND four (4) years of experience in the operation of water treatment facilities.
  • Possession of a Class "A" Water Treatment Plant Operator's License as issued by the state of Florida at the time of hire.

  • One year of supervisory experience (lead worker or acting in a supervisory capacity may be counted) in facilities and/or building maintenance environment.

  • A valid Florida driver's license at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience in water treatment process control, mathematics, microbiology, chemistry, motor controls, and mechanical/electrical maintenance & troubleshooting.

  • Training in Hazcom, Confined Spaces, Hearing Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, Respirators, Workplace Violence, Lockout/Tagout, Fire Extinguishers, Personal Protection Equipment and Hazardous Waste Operations.

Physical Demands:

  • Must wear Uniforms and Safety Shoes.

Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

About Everything Else

Starting Pay Range: $29.69 - $31.00 , based on experience
