Skidmore College On-Call Environmental Service Technician in Saratoga Springs, New York

Schedule: On-call as neededSUMMARYCleans buildings and perform specialized duties as described below.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned within classification.Comply with health and safety directives to include the use and/or wearing of protective materials and devicesSweeping, dry/wet mopping, vacuuming floors and stairwellsVacuuming and spot cleaning carpets perform minor preventative care on vacuums (belt replacement and beater bar maintenance) may require use of hand toolsFloor stripping, waxing, buffing and spray buffingSpotting, extracting and shampooing of carpetDusting and cleaning wallsHigh and low dusting with appropriate toolsDusting and cleaning furnitureCleaning windows, mirrors, and glass surfacesCleaning restrooms, which include all surfaces and restroom fixtures, replenishment of paper productsCleaning and emptying trash and recycling receptacles into trash liners and transporting trash and recycling to designated pick up areas in and around assigned buildingsCleaning chalkboards and trays, replenishment of erasers and chalkEmptying and cleaning of ashtrays in public areasRemoval of snow, trash and debris within 10 feet of all outside entrancesDisconnection or turning off of electric appliances and lighting when not in useReplacing interior light bulbs in floor, table and other fixtures excluding ceiling mounted devicesCleaning of light fixtures, lens covers and vents as required may require use of hand toolsMaintain the uniformity of furniture within the classroomReporting missing furnishings in public areas to the SupervisorSubmit service requests required to cover property repair or maintenanceSubmit lists of needed supplies to the Supervisor in a timely mannerMoving classroom and residence hall furnishings and other property within assigned work areas and operates assigned vehicle when required to transport to another locationSet up and break down areas for special events as assigned may require use of hand toolsAssemble/disassemble residence hall furnishings as assigned may require use of hand toolsRecommend improvements in work efficiencyMay be required to climb ladders, scaffolding and operate lifts for cleaning assignmentsClean stoves, microwaves, refrigerators, and dishes and the making of beds as assigned during summer months Make first attempt to free clogged drainsSet up of small staging that does not require leveling or bracingMaintain an interest in learning new ideasAbility to speak and listen effectively and respectfully with supervisors, customers, and employees of the CollegeEstablish and maintain a high level of customer service Maintain an appropriate image and dressWhen assigned as pool custodian, the following additional essential duties and responsibilities will include: Maintain swimming pool water in compliance with NYS Department of Health standardsMaintain and submit required logs and recordsMaintain the pool, pool compartment, locker and shower rooms, filter compartment, and pool storage rooms in a safe, neat and sanitary conditionBack flush pool filter system as requiredSkim, vacuum and clean pool as requiredBe capable of passing all necessary government tests, certifications and licensing examinationsPerform other custodial duties as appropriateWhen assigned to recycling duties, the following additional essential duties and responsibilities will be included:Drive college vehicle for the purpose of collecting recyclable materialsSeparate recyclable material as requiredDeliver recyclable materials to designated recycling centersPerform other custodial duties as assignedWhen assigned to hazardous waste duties, the following additional essential duties and responsibilities will be included:Primary responder to hazardous waste spillsEnsure proper information is on label attached to containersRemoves, with proper handling, hazardous materials and medical waste from buildings and delivers to main accumulation area in a timely manner outlined under state and federal guidelinesAssists Supervisor in maintaining logs and documentation in regard to inspection of main accumulation areaAttends annual training on hazardous wasteAttends annual training to maintain certificationPerforms weekly inspections as outlined on checklistsMay aid in the clean up of small hazardous waste spillsMay aid in the determination of how to handle larger spillsQUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
