Telos Energy, Inc. seeks Senior Power Systems Engineers based in Saratoga Springs, NY. Telecommuting available anywhere in the United States. HQ at 5 Jumel Place, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. Multiple openings available. Duties include: Utilize commercial software packages like PowerGEM TARA to perform steady-state power flow analyses, including contingency analysis and transfer limit analysis in conjunction with mitigations like security-constrained redispatch methods; Conduct local and regional studies using positive-sequence fundamental frequency computer software tools to model transmission systems with both synchronous and inverter-based resources for dynamic simulations of grid disturbances; Utilize commercial electromagnetic transient (EMT) computer software tools like PSCAD to develop detailed models of wind, solar, and battery plants for interconnection and validation testing through voltage regulation response and frequency response; Develop internal tools for more accurate, efficient, and faster analysis of the dynamic behavior of grids with high penetration of renewable generation (Python, Excel, etc.); Provide regular contributions to the broader industry through working groups, task forces, conference panels, and publications through IEEE, CIGRE, ESIG, etc.; Collaborate and lead members of the Telos team to interpret the results and identify potential mitigations and/or follow-up analysis to present to clients as part of written deliverables; Lead the development of slide deck presentations for oral delivery of modeling, analysis, results, and recommendations; Work with members of the Telos team to estimate the effort and duration required to complete an analysis project; Develop project execution plans for complex assignments, including scoping of detailed task lists, identification of analysis approaches and tools, and lead a team in execution of the project; Execute transmission planning studies using transfer limit analysis for system-level decarbonization planning and scenario analysis; Perform distribution system dynamic analysis to assess the risk of ground-fault over-voltage, transient over-voltage, load-rejection over-voltage, unintentional islanding, and power quality analysis associated with primary voltage connected distributed energy resources; In both written report format as well as slide deck format for oral presentation, develop clear explanatory language and supporting figures and tables to document the representation of the equipment and the grid, data inputs and assumptions, the analysis approach and methods, and the results of the simulations. This includes rendering analysis results using Bode plots, Nyquist plots, root-locus plots and using several different reference frames, including phase domain, dq0 domain, or sequence domain. Salary range: $98,072-$130,000 per year. Position requires Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or closely-related field. Position also requires 12 months experience as a Power Systems Engineer, Distribution Engineer, or similar.
