Shell Production Scheduler in Sarnia, Ontario

Position Purpose

The Shell Sarnia Refinery is looking for a Production Scheduler to manage gasoline blending as part of the Economics and Scheduling (E&S) department. This role will work closely with E&S team members, production, and technical departments on blend and unit optimization to maximize value. This role will also lead discussions with Trading and Supply (T&S) counterparts on pipeline and trucking demands and balance these requirements against the economic steers for gasoline.

As a member of the E&S team, you will also provide backup to the Refinery and Crude/Fuel Oil Scheduling desks along with other special projects related to project economics, basic data analysis/visualization, exposure management, margin variance analysis, and government reporting/audit responsibilities.

The Shell Sarnia Refinery is an 85 KBPD crude capacity refinery with Chemicals integration through an Isopropyl alcohol plant. Together thses assets form the Shell Manufacturing Center (SMC) which provides for an opportunity to cover a wide range of experiences. Accountabilities :

  • Represent gasoline blending in the planning process for the integrated business and develop an optimized refinery production plan in collaboration with relevant stakeholders

  • Ensure that the short- and medium-term blend schedule is aligned with the monthly refinery plan while minimizing stock outs, demurrage and maintaining stocks and product losses within agreed targets

  • Manage blend performance tracking and appraisal processt to ensure minimum product giveaway and ensure closure of PQ incidents

  • Act as a local subject matter expert for the refinery scheduling processes & tools (Aspen Unified Scheduling)

  • Embed and maintain the scheduling tools of the refinery, basic data management of process units and their product streams, capability & constraint setting of process units, and blend model optimization

  • Key work process performer for Forecast and Plan Production (FPP), Ensure Quality Product (EQP), and Perform Hydrocarbon and Energy Accounting (PHEA)

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Minimum 3+ years of related experience

  • Experience working in a refinery with an understanding of production planning, achieving schedules, and production blending concepts

  • Ideal candidate will have a Chemical Engineering degree or background in a refinery as a production team lead /specialist, or related role

  • Strong excel capabilities, data analytics, or experience using refinery scheduling software such as Aspen Petroleum Scheduler or equivalent is highly desired
