The Savannah GAF Plant is located just a few miles from downtown Savannah where you can find the trendiest of art boutiques or the oldest architecture under the haunting veil of Spanish moss and Live Oak trees. Just another few miles down the road is Tybee Island, with beaches, shops and amazing restaurants. The GAF Savannah Plant runs two production lines which manufacture Modified Bitumen rolled roofing products and Residential shingles, ridge caps and rolled products since 1968. Schedule: 8-12 hour shifts, rotating every week
Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Savannah’s Maintenance Team Mechanic is to safely evaluate, repair, install, and maintain electrical and mechanical systems to meet required specifications and comply with applicable codes and plant standards.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Must be able to work a flexible and rotating schedule
Skills:
Adhere to all plant and company safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures as well as actively participate in the safety program.
Read and follow blueprints, sketches, and instructions, lay out and plan work in an orderly manner.
Effectively operate drill press, electrical welding equipment, grinders, pipe threading equipment, and oxygen acetylene burning, welding, and cutting equipment.
Must be finished mechanic and use above materials, equipment, and hand tools to troubleshoot, repair, install and inspect industrial equipment.
Inspect and troubleshoot equipment for defects or malfunctions. Correct difficulties and/or report difficulties to the supervisor.
Keep account of parts and materials used and notify supervisors when supplies are low.
Partner with internal customers to identify the root cause of failures.
Perform daily preventative maintenance inspections and evaluate for accuracy.
Basic use of computer systems.
Other duties as assigned.
Under This Roof, We Require:
High School diploma or GED
3+ years of demonstrated experience and/or training; or combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to fiberglass mat, asphalt, granules, fumes or airborne particles that fall below OSHA PELs. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to vibration from machines.
The employee occasionally works in high places and above the floor level on catwalks and/or stairs, and is exposed to seasonally hot and cold weather.
