Robot Operator
POSITION PROFILE
The Robot Operator works within designated Service Advantage Partner locations as the on-site Robot Operator. This role involves operating and supporting a variety of Partner-sold equipment at customer locations, generally within a specific geographic area. The Robot Operator will have the ability to operate Modular Control Systems, Partner Structure, and Client systems, manage priorities, and optimize the performance of automation systems in all daily activities. The operator demonstrates technical expertise and follows Partner-agreed Standard Operating Procedures. They work with the Partner Support team to proactively identify issues impacting operations and system performance. The overall job function is to maximize the operational output and efficiency of automation systems and provide expert support.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Support:
Provides front-line operational support for client automation, robotic, workstation, and technology systems.
Operates automated systems, software-based control systems, electrical and mechanical systems, and structures.
Utilizes hands-on support with an electro-mechanical aptitude and familiarity with Linux and command line to support client systems and products.
Provides Partner-level direct communications and interaction with client vendor partners.
Supports client's key performance indicators, achieving maximum system uptime and overall client satisfaction.
Performs system software updates per recommended client technical instructions.
Possesses technical skills to troubleshoot and operate client systems, remediating issues to ensure high-level system performance.
Collects and analyzes data, applies a systematic approach to reach conclusions, and makes appropriate decisions.
Performs a full range of support services, including diagnostics, installation, mapping, induction, removal, configuration testing, and commissioning of the client's automation system.
Demonstrates required digital competencies associated with assigned products and level assignments.
Completes technical training on client systems as assigned.
Reviews all technical information pertaining to supported systems and products.
Acts as a positive influence/champion within the team/organization.
Proactively seeks ways to improve processes and operational excellence.
Performs other duties related to Partner Support as assigned.
Robot Operation and Monitoring:
Provides active on-site robot operation and monitoring.
Supports the day-to-day operations and service delivery for all robots, including troubleshooting, repair, and shipping.
Gathers metrics and KPIs to assess the quality of products and assist in operational process improvements.
Supports engineering and operations with testing and performance management.
This position will be on-site at a customer location.
The role may work typical 1st or 2nd shifts and may include weekends.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, and Certifications):
Associate degree or 4 years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience or training in the Robotics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical fields.
Serves as a role model and always exhibits professional appearance and behavior.
Experience and proficiency in automated systems and software-based controls, and electrical and electronic principles.
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree from a vocational school or college with a focus on Robotics, Mechanical, or Electronics fields.
Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize many different projects and workloads.
Ability to work independently.
Physical dexterity and the ability to stand for long periods.
Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with peers, management, contractors, and vendors.
Highly self-motivated, customer-centric, and focused on team success.
Experience with data entry or customer service.
Experience with project improvement methodologies.
Experience with Slack and Google Meet.
Experience supporting high uptime (24/7), high-reliability systems in customer facilities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Excellent working knowledge of electro-mechanical devices, automation systems, and technology applications.
Expert knowledge of assigned client automation systems.
Methodical approach to resolving problems.
Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to follow up to ensure closure of issues.
Ability to read and comprehend written technical information in the form of site operations, technical manuals, and relevant publications.
WORKING CONDITIONS, MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Typically works in a warehouse environment with adequate lighting, ventilation, and a normal range of temperature and noise.
Variable shifts may be required to meet Partners' needs, including overtime and/or weekend support.
Requires regular use of a laptop, software, and client test equipment.
May be required to move objects on wheels up to 400 pounds and lift and carry objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling are required to support the client automation system.
Overnight travel may be required to attend or provide training for vendor-specific equipment and devices.
