The Locksmith, under general supervision, performs master/journey level work in the installation, repair, remodel, and maintenance of manual and automated locks, locking systems, and security devices; computerized access control systems; door openers, closers, and hardware. Preferred: Knowledge of Keystone Web and Best Access Systems.

Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

  • Installs, repairs, and maintains commercial lockable hardware, such as doors, automatic electric doors, windows, lockers, and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of people and facilities.
  • Makes new keys and replaces lost or broken keys.
  • Designs and maintains master key system, including access control systems.
  • Cleans, maintains, adjusts, calibrates, and services equipment used in the performance of duties.
  • Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service. Available 24/7 for emergencies.
  • Utilizes keystone key and core control software for designing and maintain an A2 small format master key system with multiple keyways.
  • Performs key audits to maintain key control.
Work Environment/Physical Demands
  • Participates in emergency on-call services.
  • The primary duties of this class are performed in a construction/maintenance environment within a city facility/park. The ability to endure prolonged exposure to arid desert conditions i.e. prolonged sun and heat exposure with knowledge of proper hydration methods.
  • Work performed in various maintenance settings and field situations.
  • Work sometimes involves bending and stooping repeatedly, lifting arms above head, and moderate muscular exertion and lifting.
  • Make precise measurements and estimates.
  • Exposure to dust, pollen, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant odors.
  • Visual and muscular dexterity to operate: equipment, hand tools, computer, and telephone.
  • Skillfully maneuver small objects.
  • Move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Sit for extended periods of time while driving a City vehicle or equipment maintaining constant vigilance to the surrounding area.
  • Operate a motor vehicle and travel to/from various locations.
