General Summary

Position requires performance of a variety of complex accounting and budget-related activities that require the application of professional accounting standards and which follow established Company policies and procedures. In addition, work will involve complicated and detailed journal entries and completion of special projects as needed / assigned, as well as providing support of up to 1 member of the accounting team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the VP & Corporate Controller to support the accounting team.
  • Perform analytical functions necessary to achieve an accurate and timely general ledger month end close.
  • Accurately and completely prepare monthly journal entries, ensuring compliance with accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve complex problems with regards to maintaining accounts or systems, preparing reports and proper accounting for transactions.
  • Assist the accounting team in ensuring materially correct and timely financial statements are produced by analyzing period-over-period, year-over-year, and budget-to-actual trends as assigned.
  • Participate where assigned, in budgeting, forecasting and corporate regulatory filings and other work required on a periodic basis.
  • Provide back up support for the VP & Corporate Controller. May perform duties of other accounting / finance staff and / or VP & Corporate Controller in their absence or as needed / assigned.
  • Develop, and implement internal accounting policies, procedures and controls to ensure organizational assets are safeguarded and accounting transactions are recorded accurately.
  • Support the annual audit process, which includes providing PBC requests to the external auditors, and providing substantial support for audit selections.
  • Support the business by providing accurate general ledger account codes for individual projects based on information provided.
  • Perform a variety of research activities. Identify accounting or reporting issues and recommend corrective action.
  • Manage or assist on other ad-hoc projects from key stakeholders within the organization, as well as cross-training on other department functions.
  • Ensure attendance at respective periodic meetings in order to maintain open dialogue about any potential accounting implications of operational changes.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or university required.
  • 2-3 years full-time accounting experience required, with some supervisory responsibilities.
  • Interest in pursuing CPA designation preferred
  • Complete understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel are essential with an emphasis on building new spreadsheets, and using advanced functions such as VLOOKUP, and IF () statements.
  • Ability to successfully utilize accounting software system (s), Microsoft Word and Outlook to complete assigned work / projects
  • Knowledge of NetSuite is a plus, but not required.
